Getting ready to give blood - November 2nd 2009, 12:17 AM

Hey there,

I just turned sixteen, and I'm going to be giving blood for the first time this week. I am not a vegetarian, but I don't eat any meat other than chicken and fish. I just want to make sure that I have high enough levels of what not in my blood so I am not rejected as a donor now that I have decided to neglect my fear of others stabbing me with a giant needle (cringe) and give blood
Is there anything I should be eating/not eating?

make sure you eat foods that are high in iron in the days before you give blood because a lot of people get rejected because of that.. and generally eat healthily.
don't worry about the needle.. you hardly feel it! [honest!!]
i'd be dead if it wasn't for blood donors.. so good on you!

don't worry about the meat thing, i'm a regular donnor (atm i'm 4 weeks late for my regular appointment stupid swine flu lol)

I primary don't eat meat and when i do it's chicken and fish and i've never been rejected just so long as you eat healthy and don't like only eat chips and stuff
