Question Car accident, Possible concussion? - April 8th 2010, 12:00 AM

Today I was in a car accident. My brother was driving and I was in the backseat. A car hit us from behind at about thirty miles per hour and slammed us into another car. I didn't hit my head on anything but the seat behind me but a while after getting home my head started throbbing. I was reading online and I found out it might be a mild concussion. I was curious if anybody out there has had any experience in car accidents and could offer me some insight as to what good be causing my discomfort. By the way I have pain in my neck, a throbbing headache, and drowsiness. Thanks

(thankfully nobody in the accident was badly hurt, except for my brother's lego guy he kept on the dashboard *plays taps* )

Your brain is suspended on cerebrospinal fluid and is prone to move around. Its very possible you may have bruised your brain or just the meninges of the brain from the whiplash of your neck which could be considered a very mild concussion.

I utmost recommend you get into a doctor within the next 24 hours as there are many instances where a concussion can result in a brain bleed or hemorrhage causing almost instance death anywhere from 1-7 days post incidence. You have two key symptoms of a concussion including drowsiness and the headache, whereas the neck throbbing is classic whiplash. If you ever get abnornmally drowsy and immediately was to sleep, DONT! seek help immediately.
