Sleeeep Paralysis - September 28th 2010, 04:59 PM

Okay so I get sleep paralysis. For those of you who don't know what it is, it is a disturbance during REM sleep where you mind is away and your body is frozen and you can't move and whatnot.
Anyways, I decided to take naps and today it happened 3 times. O.O
Each occurrence seems longer than it used to be.

Any advice for this? Currently, there is no cure or medication for sleep paralysis, so any tips would be super helpful.

Re: Sleeeep Paralysis - September 28th 2010, 05:05 PM

I used to get it a lot, mostly when I was suffering badly from depression for some reason. I noticed I had it more when I slept in the day also.

Do you see things? I used to see a black figure in my room walking around. I read sleeping on your back helps prevent the hallucinations.

By the way, do you ever wake up, can't move and don't know where you are? I come home from holidays last month and had sleep paralysis the night after I come home. I woke up, couldn't move and really didn't know if I was in my hotel room or my own room. It really freaked me out for some reason :|

I haven't gotten it at night in a long time thankfully, but I get it when I nap.

Oddly enough, my eyes aren't open during it anymore lol. So I can't see. However, with one of the episodes today, it felt like someone was touching my face (I thought it was my sister ) and then it felt like my laptop fell on my face.

I haven't had that because I don't travel often enough

When you get it, have you ever had a lucid dream? Like sometimes if the sleep paralysis is farther into the dream state than awake state, I can like get up and move (not actually physically move, but dreaming) yet I still know I am in the sleep paralysis state and all I want to do is wake up lol.

That would be nice if you could ask him.
It's not something that you really understand until you have it lol

I get this a lot, and the only thing that helps me is not sleeping on my back. Anytime I sleep on my back, it happens. Other than that, I don't know anything else that helps.

It used to only happen to me on my back. Now it happens on my side too and occasionally on my stomach.

Can sudden environmental/lifestyle changes cause paralysis?

I've had this a couple of times; both have been when I've been sleeping on my back - not sure whether thats significant or not.

Sleeping on your back increases the chances for it.
