Migraines - November 6th 2010, 12:30 AM

I have had migraines since I was 4 but they have just started getting worse again. I already use ice, and I take excedrine and if that doesn't work then I take my Imitrex. I know that I am going to have to go see my neurologist again but I was wondering if anyone has any remedies I could try?

Have you tried freezing a wet towel and placing it in your forehead? I also like to drink warm tea like green tea and leaf tea and going to my room to sleep with everything off all lights and sounds that usually does it for me. Hope you feel better migraines are terrible.

I sometimes get bad headaches, but my bf gets migraines quite often.

We tried peppermint oil a few times. It always works for me, and sometimes for him.

But yeah, here's a link that talks about it. It worked wonders for me. It's worth a shot. =]

I hope that you find a way to relieve your migraines.

Take care.

Hey there,

What are you currently doing as well as taking the medication for your migraines? Are you staying away from bright and flashing lights, and anything like fans that moves fast? My mum has extremely bad migraines and doesn't take medication for it, she tends to keep lights off and lay down when she gets them, and stays in silence until they're over. Have you thought about speaking to your doctor and seeing whether he could recommend anything else?

I hope this helps.
Marie.

Re: Migraines - November 7th 2010, 03:05 AM

Thanks everyone...when I get my migraines I do have to have all of the lights and sound off, most of the time I can't even be around food, the smell makes me sick. But I will be making an appointment with my neurologist soon. I will deffinately try the peppermint oil.

Have you tried gatorade or something? I hear that works for some people. It doesn't for me. The only thing I can do is just ride it out. But keep well hydrated!

I think sleep is the best thing. But until you fall asleep wear a freezing cold towel or flannel on the tender , painful bit of you head, and drink tea NOT WATER to cointrol the nausea. Water will make you vomit , espesially if you take painkillers too , you'll just vomit it up. :O But tea helps settle your tummy. As for feeling weak JUST SLEEP it'll all be over in a few hours /days

I love tea and I have tons of it, I never thought of drinking it instead of water for my migraines, I'm going to try it. Thanks!

If you've been getting them since you were 4, you could always get the injections. My auntie gets them.

The doctor would prescribe them to you, and whenever you feel the onset of a migraine, you'd give yourself an injection and it really helps.

This could maybe be something you could discuss with the doctor?
