Swelling after wisdom teeth removal? - September 5th 2011, 09:35 PM

I'm just wondering if anyone has suggestions for making the swelling go down faster? I got my wisdom teeth removed on Friday & there hasn't been a TON of swelling, but I go back to school tomorrow & I want to look fairly normal. Also, the inside of my mouth is still really swollen. I've already ice my face, which hasn't helped a lot.

My doctor suggested gargling ice-cold water. I didn't try it, but it might work.

Yes, definitely keep the ice cold water coming, as well as the ice packs on the outerside. If it has been over 24 hours, you should not apply cold but rather warm and moist wash clothes to the area for 20 minutes, then leave off for 20. Repeat as much as you would like. Basically, the warmth opens up your blood vessels more and that will allow the fluids causing the swelling to be carried away faster.

Hope this helps

Sea salt soaks! Thats what both of my brothers did. Just take a class of water and put about half a teaspoon of pure sea salt (no iodine) into warm/hot water and rinse it around for a bit. It works really well for healing

Well I’ve lost it all, I’m just a silhouette,
A lifeless face that you’ll soon forget.
