Blood Donors -
November 9th 2011, 03:58 PM
Okay, so wasn't really sure if this belonged in general, or health..
But my Granddad has been told today that he needs a blood transfusion, and is going in tomorrow for this - My question is just really; how many of you give / have given blood? It truly is an easy way to do something amazing for others. I'll start - It's something I would absolutely love to do, I have never been heavy enough (so far) in order to give blood as I am slim and petite. How 'bout you guys?! (: take my hand now, we'll run forever, i can feel the storm inside you, i'll stay with you 23/04/2012 - peanut - our beautiful creation <3 |

I would love to give blood too. I mean, the only thing I fear is passing out. I think it's a great way to do something nice for people. It's a very selfless act. I've never done it before though.
I wanted to in High school, but always chickened out when the time came to actually do it. :/

I have given 4 pints of blood. It is a GREAT thing to do. Do not be scared by the thought of it as it's not as bad as you think! The people who work there are used to seeing people faint- which is why they lay you on an awesome bed and give you a drink before you get up and a cup of tea/juice and a biscuit before you leave.
I can't donate until they get to the bottom of my medical issues. I really miss doing it!

I donated twice in high school and I felt great afterwards. It's nothing to be scared about it's only a pinch and you lay there until you're done.

It is a truly amazing thing you are doing, I hope they get to the bottom of your medical issues so that you can carry on giving other people chances in life! (:

In high school I wasn't heavy enough. Now the only thing holding me back is my fear of needles and lack of pain tolerance. I also don't like the fact that there are a lot of people who could donate, but are turned away for reasons other than health or medication.

I'd love to, but I Don't think I'd ever actually do it. Needles make me feel physically sick just at the thought of me having to have one in me. I end up shaking and my heart races. I recon if it came to it I'd chicken out. I know that's selfish, but I really don't think I'd allow myself to do it.

I've done it like 5 times. I don't enjoy it, but I'm a universal donor, so I try to be a decent person.

I'm unable to give blood, I had a transfusion in Feb
![]() I'm alive thanks to that donor, I think it's amazing. So many people CAN give but don't, as soon as I turned 17 I wanted to, but my condition was being nasty and I was told to wait until after my op, but again, I needed blood during the op. everyone who donates is amzing, you are saving a life |

I'm planning on participating in my schools blood drive this year. I wasn't able to last year because I had to be 16.

Re: Blood Donors -

I gave blood about two years ago with the Red Cross. I was slightly underweight and anemic but the nurse let me donate anyway!! They took too much blood and as I was walking over to the refreshment area I passed out. At the exact same time, my friend threw up so there was a lot of confusion. I came back about an hour later. I went to my doctor the week after because I already had a check up planned and he told me to NEVER donate blood at a college or school drive because more times than not the people there just don't know what they're doing. If you're going to donate blood, make sure you're well-hydrated and eat a large meal beforehand and light food afterward. Just make sure the nurse who's taking your blood knows what he or she is doing!

I'd have to weigh at least xx extra pounds, and then they probably wouldn't want it anyway, what with all my prescription steroids floating around in there.

Re: Blood Donors -

I've done it once, and intend to do it again as soon as I can. I would have kept donating regularly but my iron levels became low; I've been taking supplements so I hope that'll get them up enough so I can donate again soon. It's a really easy way to help people - literally save lives and all that - and it's not as scary as I thought it would be. This coming from a person who used to be on the verge of panic attacks every time someone even said the word 'needle'.
![]() For all you guys who are thinking about it but are a little nervous, that's fine. Just try it - when I did it, the people there were really nice, and they're used to dealing with people who aren't great with needles, so they know how to make you feel better. Nothing in the world is the way it ought to be. It's harsh, and cruel. But that's why there's us - champions. Doesn't matter where we come from, what we've done or suffered, or even if we make a difference. We live as though the world is as it should be, to show it what it can be. |

I have to wait till im 17 which is only 3 months and I have my first appointment booked
When your in danger or in harms way its no longer just your life, its everyone who you have seen, spoken to, met, shared experiences with because even if you don't think that they have had an influence on your life or made you realise something, you have probably influenced them. Your never the only one involved in your life. |

I gave blood last year! It was an okay experience except for the minor squirt and looking at my blood bag O.O.
Unfortunately, the blood agency has been trying to contact me ever since, since I have O - blood... (i.e. the universal blood which converts into any blood type). Carpe Diem: Seize the Day/Moment.

Re: Blood Donors -

I want to, but I'm afraid to. Also, I'm not sure if I'm allowed to give blood due to having Lyme and other medical conditions. And just so people know, giving blood isn't bad at all universities or schools. My university is quite good with blood donations, or so I've heard from other students.
"'Colie, you should never be surprised when people treat you with respect. You should expect it.' I shook my head. 'You don't know--' I began. But, as usual, she didn't let me finish. 'Yes,' she said simply, 'I do know. I've watched you, Colie. You walk around like a dog waiting to be kicked. And when someone does, you pout and cry like you didn't deserve it.' 'No one deserves to be kicked,' I said. 'I disagree,' she said flatly. 'You do if you don't think you're worth any better...'" |

I've always wanted to, but I was also underweight in high school. Now, I plan on giving blood once my health gets back up
I'm hoping to become a regular. It would be great to give something that could save someone else's life.

I would love to give blood! But the thing is that I get really dizzy very easily. Last time I got blood drawn so my doctor could run tests on my blood I almost fell down because the room was spinning. They actually had to take me back in the room to lay down while I drank apple juice!! So embarrassing! :/
When someone apologizes enough times for something they'll never stop doing I think its fearless to stop believing them. I think its fearless to say "Your NOT sorry" and walk away.
I have died everyday waiting for you, darling don't be afraid I have loved you for a thousand years. I'll love you for a thousand more <3 ![]() ~You are my hero~ |

I've always wanted to. I'm not 110 lbs though so I've never gotten the chance to donate. It actually really bugs me that I haven't been able to donate haha. My Dad's a regular donor though and I think my brother's donated before a time or two.
