nutritionists - November 26th 2011, 12:39 AM

Does anyone know if you have to be referred to a nutritionist by your diction in order to have it covered by your insurance?

And if you go to one because your having issues losing weight, will the automatically make you keep a food diary?

I went to one to gain weight. Uh, mine was referred to me by my doctor, so it seems like you may need your doctor to help. I didn't need to keep a food diary.

My personal experience: I was referred to one by my doctor however, I never went because they told me I was supposed to be more overweight... even though I had a referral.

To answer your question, I think you do need a referral. You could ask your doctor about what to expect regarding a food diary and what not.

I'm worried about the food diary thing because I'm afraid they'll look at it and say "well this is why you can't lose weight" without listening to my side of the story... I have a major texture issue that I'm not in control of, so the foods I can eat are extremely limited. :/
