legs shaking? - March 29th 2009, 03:40 AM

I've noticed lately that when i'm just sitting there my legs will sort of shake and i can't stop them, it's really weird.

I'm on so many drugs and the chemo is having some weird effects on me, so could it be from that? Or do you think it's unrelated?

I know you're not doctors, and yes, of course i'll be consulting my doctor as soon as i see him next week.. but i was just wondering in the mean time if anyone else has experienced this?

It's hard to say since we don't know what medication you're on, I don't think that chemotherapy can cause that though, I may be wrong but the doctor never mentioned that as a possible effect when we were speaking to him about my grandfather.
I think the only way to even have an idea as to what it is would be to wait to see your doctor, or look up all the side effects to all the medication you're on.
I'd be happy to help look up side effects if you wouldn't mind posting a list of your medication.

From the chemo and all, it could be anything from Restless Leg Syndrome (which I have) to some type of vitamin deficiency or a nerve issue. The best thing I could recommend doing would be to consult with the doctor overseeing your general care or the one who maintains your chemo and medication, probably the oncologist?

Sorry to hear about cancer.

Given your legs are shaking, and everything your under-going. Do you drink energy drinks? Try and stay away from high doses of energy: Energy shakes, drinks, bars or even they have those "Zap Zips" that boost your energy.

My right leg is always shaking. I had three people sit on it and it still wouldn't stop.
It's so weird.

Unfortunately though, I have no idea what it is.
It very well could be the medication or it could just be like a nervous tick.
Like you said, the best thing to do is contact your doctor.
As long as it's not affecting you in the long run you shouldn't worry about it too much.

Anxiety can cause shaking, too.

Could be the meds... like if you think about it, often people on 'drugs' are shaky and antsy-bodied... obviously you're not 'on drugs' but you are on drugs... if that makes sense, haha, so it could be similar effects. Also, chemo affects everyone differently...so tremors could be a particular effect significant for your body's make-up. But we can't really say for sure!

I obviously don't know for sure, but I would reckon that yes, all that medication and the Chemo could be causing it. Your body could be really weak right now, and sometimes this can cause your limbs to become tired and could definitely cause your legs to shake.

Another thing would be nerves and stress. You have a lot going on right now and it could all be accumulating and coming out in this way.

For me, my legs get shaky when my blood pressure is low, so that could be another possibility.

I hope your doctor has an answer for you. Good luck. <3

the chemotherapy drugs i have are are;
Vincristine
Ifosfamide
Doxorubicin (Adriamycin)
Etoposide

I'm also on;
MST [slow release morphine]
septrin
nosinan (Levomepromazine)
Dexamethasone steroid
Ondansitron
Cyclazine

i think that's it. I've been on all of that for about 5 months.

Vincristine can cause tremors, which is very similar to shaking. (It's a sign of a severe side effect that should be brought up with your doctor asap).
Morphine can cause tremors in between doses as a symptom of withdrawal, but I'm not sure if that would happen with the extended release version, I couldn't find anything on it.
Septrin can cause low blood sugar, which can cause shakiness and tremors.
Cyclizine can also cause tremor.

A lot of those drugs can also cause seizures, I kind of doubt this is what is happening but sometimes seizures can be localized and only effect one part of your body, such as your legs. However, there would be other signs with it.
You can read about it here if you want.

thanks,
I saw one of the duty doctors at the hospital today and she thinks its from the Cyclizine but she's going to talk to my consultant about it.
I'm going to ask about the Vincristine though, because i've been worried its having some weird side effects for a while.

I hope it's nothing serious, good luck with your cancer by the way.
That Vincristine sounds like it can cause a lot of problems if it's from that, so hopefully it's not.

My legs are constantly moving due to restless leg syndrome, and its really annoying. I'm not sure if that's what you've got or not. Sorry to hear about your cancer
