Question Want to Quit - July 17th 2012, 02:01 AM

Hey, so if you didn't read my post in depression/suicide I ask you too, if not that's cool too (Any Ideas?). Basically I want to stop smoking weed drinking and smoking cigars/cigarettes. It's not that I don't like it or find it immoral, I'm actually an avid supporter of legalization. My problem is that I'm using these like a crutch. I get the blues and use weed to distract me and lift me out. I want to quit but need suggestions on what to do to fill my time. Thanks in advance. -Smokey

Hi Smokey,

I agree that the laws regarding substance use should be more lax (besides BAC while driving). A lot of nonviolent countries have chill policies because they trust in their nation's people. Anyway, I'm sure you know that weed is really just a mental addiction. If it's a crutch for you, then how about trying to gradually try switching to a new crutch? You know...smoking as often as you please, and introducing something (like playing an instrument [guitar, drums, anything], or throwing a ball through a hoop, even going for a run). These are all great and natural ways to get that angst out. Gradually rely on these things more, and wean yourself off the stuff.

Re: Want to Quit - July 20th 2012, 06:31 PM

I want to quit all together until I can get my melancholy in order. It's been a week since I quit smoking weed and tobacco and I've had cravings but fought them. I changed a good bit of my life for the better, but am afraid of the eventual relapse. I can go about a month until I freak out and neeeeeed to smoke. Any other suggestions to avoid this?

That's awesome that you've been a week without smoking. The way I see it is that you've got to go into this positively, assuming that you'll resist all urges and not relapse. Just keep yourself occupied, keep yourself in the right direction. It sounds like you've definitely got willpower. Good luck!

I'm a natural pessimist, but my real problem is a month in I have nothing to keep me occupied and about thirty days after I quit, I start snapping at people and getting super tense. I've tried a few times before and it's ended (roughly) the same way
