Weed/cigarettes - day one. - June 16th 2009, 09:45 AM

I officially quit smoking.

Both cigarettes and weed.

Starting...

now.

Tomorrow will be the ultimate test around my friends. Let's see how I stack up.

Hey, I'm proud of you for what you're doing. If you think its going to be too much when they're doing it right infront of you then can you ask them maybe not to do it infront of you? Or maybe just go for a walk while they do?

My mentality is that I'm going to have to sit there in front of them while they do eventually, so why not start off strong? If I can get through watching them, then I'm confident I can keep going from there.

(:

Thanks for the reply, too!

(I moved this thread here because this forum is here for support with substance abuse. Mods, if you disagree feel free to move it back.)

I'm glad you're making this decision to quit. It's probably not going to be the easiest thing to do, but once you get past it, i'm sure you'll feel alot better, healthier, and proud that you accomplished something like this. :]

Day three -

Is it necessary to quit completely? All I want is one smoke a day to keep the cravings away and then I'll be set. I can cut down, right? All of those people that I've declared that I am quitting won't be disappointed in me, will they? I mean, tonnes of people try to quit but can't. Its just too hard.

It's stressful, depressive, painful. My head is killing and I snap at everyone. Not fun.

Opinions?

If you start going back to just one a day, you'll eventually end up back at 15 a day and so on. Stay strong and don't go back. I know it's hard but you can do it and it makes you a much stronger person. Life ain't easy, ya know?

Wow, this is a great decision! I'm glad your strong enough to do this! If you've hit the three day hump you shouldn't bother going back, you're so close!

Hey (:

Making the decision to quit any addictive substance is a big step in the right direction. I hope you've been able to stay strong but even if you've slipped up a bit I am extremely proud of you for trying. Quitting is a process and while parts of you may be mentally ready to quit other parts of you may linger and attempt to sabotage your progress. The trick is to not give into temptation and most of all never give up trying. You only really lose when you give up. Being around friends who are still engaging in this type of activity around you is just going to make it so much harder on you. I would suggest taking a break from these friends or simply taking yourself out of the situation when they start smoking by taking a walk or finding an excuse to get away. It might help to explain how their behavior and the temptation they bring along effect you and your goals to quit. If your friends aren't understanding or respectful towards you then they really aren't worth it. I wish you the best of luck. If you ever need someone to talk to feel free to PM me anytime. Take care and hang in there.

Lots of love<3 Mimi

Hey man nice work, stronger person than me.

Imagine that a baby gosling was placed inside one of those big glass bottles with a little opening that you see model ships in, and raised inside, until it is fully grown and can no longer fit out through the neck of the bottle. How can you get the goose out of the bottle? Without hurting/killing the goose.

Err no. As someone trying to get away from smoking, wouldn't you know first off that having one cigarette a day leads to more? It wouldn't end at one cigarette a day and you know that.

It may have worked for you and your mom, but you two and the OP are not the same people in the least bit. Every person is different.

Hey again (:

I just felt like letting you know that I am still thinking about you and wishing you the best of luck in accomplishing this. It is incredibly hard to stop smoking or even think you want to stop. I also wanted to let you know that even if you are struggling with it again now it doesn't take away from how proud I am of you for even wanting to try stopping. If you ever need someone to talk to I am here for you. Also, I hope you feel cared about after receiving all these replies to your thread (: Even though it can be hard to feel like it at times because this is the internet, so many people on TH genuinely to care. Take care of yourself and do your best to resist temptation.

Lots and lots of love <3 Mimi
