Am I the only one? - October 23rd 2011, 07:42 PM

This is a stupid question to ask but.... Here it is anyways;

When I see/talk/think about smoking weed I start get really bad cravings
Idk I'd they are really cravings but I want it sooo bad. I bite my lips until they bleed, I get sick to my stomach, and all I ca think about is getting high again. It's gotten to the point where I don't really care if it's marijuana, as long as I get the same high.I want it sooo bad. I know drugs are bad, and it's been a few years since I smoked pot. But... Does anyone else ever feel this way? Especially towards mariquana? I just quit smoking cigarettes two months ago and I don't crave them at all. Or am I just f-ed up?

I've never felt that way, so I don't know for sure, but I think that would basically be an addiction.

But it's been almost three years since I last had it! Why do I still want it?!?! :/ I did smoke up everyday with my ex, who was abusive, for three months straight. So that could have something to do with it? But I want it now more then ever!

It could. Honestly, I'm not entirely sure. I've smoked before, but not very consistently to avoid getting addicted so I've never had addiction problems. But my boyfriend smokes a lot, so he feels that way. I guess it just depends on the person, how much you smoked, & your experiences with it.

I'm thinking, maybe if I try to give myself a bad high experience then I won't want to smoke marijuana. I don't know what to do that though, or if there is any decent ways to do it? I sort of wanna try hypnosis.

I really don't think that would work, to be honest. My first smoking experience was absolutely horrible & even though I never wanted to smoke again, here I am, still doing it from time to time. Try to find a turnoff to smoking besides trying to smoke again. That might just make it worse.

Marijuana, to my knowledge, isn't physically addictive. But it can be psychologically addictive. You want to feel that way again, so you're working after that same high. Have you considered talking to somebody about this?

I have a therapist but that is the last thing he wants to talk aout. He wants to get rid of suicidal thoughts, the PTSD,then depression, then anxiety, then addictions. And we are still on the suicidal thoughts part.

I'm not sure. For me, my turnoff is the fact that when my boyfriend smokes, he's a total asshole. Therefore, I don't want us to smoke. Maybe find an emotional tie like that? I'm sorry, I can't really help a whole lot since I don't know your whole situation with it.

Ashley, still, find the time in the session to talk about this, too. Or increase the frequency of the visits.

"Jonesing" for pot is quite common, esp. if you're thinking about it or hear about it. That's B/C the stimuli (the thought or the words) is connected in the brain with the feelings. You might have quit a while ago (yay!), but you still remember, and when you think about it or hear about it, the memories are recalled. That's when the cravings or "Jonesing" occurs, it's a physiological reaction caused by the fond memories that still remain.

What to do? This is going to sound overly simple, but....don't think about it, and if you find yourself drifting off into those thoughts, or are surrounded by people talking, quickly remove yourself from both and substitute something else, think about another topic, and 'force' yourself to stay with that other topic until the urge passes, which it will.

You get better at managing your response to triggers, it takes time, perseverance, and patience, though.

PM me with the link of the post you'd like me to respond to.

I am very family oriented, and my family (besides my siblings and parents) but uncles and aunts all smoke it, and I'm around them a lot. They "secretly" talk about it and they will smoke around me.
