dad keeping a secret. - September 30th 2009, 11:34 PM

My parents are divorced and I went to my dad's house Monday afternoon. I knew something has been up lately. I searched my dad's room when he wasn't home. I know it was wrong but I don't like it when people keep secrets from me. I found a bunch of love notes from another woman and lady clothes in his closet.

I hate it. Like why does he have to hide this from me. My mom never did, when she dated a new guy. It just sucks a lot. I don't know what to do about this. Anyone know of what I could do with this...

Realize, that on a level, your parents CAN keep things from you. I'm not talking major life issues but certain things here and there are allowed to be kept private. Everyone has his or her own secrets to keep.

It's possible your Dad has a girlfriend and isn't sure how to go about telling you, which explains those things being hidden. Or perhaps they're old love notes and he was just reminiscing. There are a large variety of possibilities, try not to see it as him intentionally hurting you.

If you want, ask him about it. Admit that you were snooping and you're curious, he'll probably be willing to tell you. If he isn't, let him have his space. When he's ready to tell you, he will.

maybe you can talk to him about it. just bring up the fact you dont mind if he dates, or if he has anything he wants to tell you. maybe he just isnt ready to tell you. Steph is right, they dont have to tell you things! it may suck because I am the same way, i dont like people keeping secrets from me neither. but just like you dont tell him EVERYTHING, he feels this is something personal. he may be embaressed, and your mom might not be! just be open and honest. my PM box is always open if you need to talk!
be true, be you.

I think the others said it the best. Talk to him about it and see what he has to say.

Best of luck
