My Best Friend - November 23rd 2009, 08:32 PM

ok, well my best frend has always been there for me. we have been best frends since year 7, 4 years ago. shes been really supportive and really tolerant and i realy really like her. but about a week ago, suddenly, i didnt feel anything for her. i dont feel any love for her, yet i dont feel any dislike. just nothing. i cant seem to have fun with her anymore, and i keep having a go at her in hope that she will be mean back, coz that way at least i will feel SOMETHING. but shes always so understanding and shes constantly nice to me even when i am mean to her face. i cant understand why i feel like this, and i dont want to feel like this. i think i want to be best friends with her, but somehow my feelings wont let me. any advice about how to stop feeling like this?

Hi there,

I'm sorry things aren't going too well with your friend right now. Feelings can change in a friendship, and it can be difficult to know what to do about it.

What I suggest you do is try new things when you hang out with her. I know you don't feel anything for your friend right now, but the situation could be contributing to that feeling. Try doing something new and fun when you hang out instead of doing the same old things. Go someplace different, check out a new place, try baking something interesting. There are plenty of things you could try.

No matter how you feel about your friend, being mean to her for the sake of feeling something is not fair. She may be putting up with it right now, but she may understand it as a personal attack later. She sounds like a good friend, and even if you don't feel anything right now, hurting her feelings is not a nice thing to do. Try being nice to her and do your best to figure out somethings that could help your friendship along.

If you continue to feel this way even after hanging out and doing new things, then maybe it would be best if you started hanging out with some other people. It isn't worth putting your friend through mean remarks. It might help you both to expand your other friendships some more as well.

I hope things work out for you and your friend.
Take care.
