He really thinks that of me? - November 27th 2009, 04:54 AM

I think one of the worst things that happened to me was when my dad found a really old grade sheet. I was in the bottom half percentile because it was like the first week of school that year and we hadn't learned anything. I had just woken up like 5 minutes ago and my mom was out of the house. He screams at me and tells me that I live like a pig and rants about my room which at the time was quite clean. Then, he tells me that i'm going to be a high school drop out and work at the gas station down the street from our house. When I tried to explain the grade, he told me he was done with me. That my mom can deal with me because he wanted no part in me. When my mom came home, they started fighting. He left the next day because he's a trucker.
I was crying the next morning before school and I told my mom what had happened because she kept asking. When my dad came home later, he gave me a sarcastic apology which, honestly, was adding insult to injury. He finally ended up really apologizing to me like a week later after an almost endless lecture from my mom. That really, really broke me. It was only two weeks ago, but it still affects me, thinking that my own father thinks that of me.

Look at me
I will never pass for a perfect bride
Or a perfect daughter

can it be
I'm not meant to play this part?
Now I see
That if I were truly
To be myself
I would break my family's heart ♥

I can't believe that your Dad really can think that bad of you after one duff grade. He'll still love you like all parents do their children - he'd probably had a bad day at work and got caught up in the spur of the moment and had a bit of a temper tantrum. Anyway, this is your chance to prove him wrong - work really hard so he'll be proud of your next set of grades. Forget about it - one duff grade in high school won't spoil your career.

You never know with parents. He may have gotten nervous or probably what crmzchan said. But I say don't do something to prove your father wrong. I mean do well in school but not to spite him. Do your best in school. Apply the effort. But as for what your father did, forgive him. I know your feelings hurt but leave the issue in the past and move on. Such things will only hurt you every time you think of them.
