Am I just over thinking this? - November 30th 2009, 02:07 AM

My so called best friends sure have a way of making me feel left out.

A few days ago my friend said straight to me "You're like my Jacob, I love you but I'm always gonna love (or maybe it was choose, i cant remember) Kara** more"

I know she wasn't joking cuz when I "fake" being offended she'll usually say she was just joking but she didn't. It really hurt.

Now the thing is I can't tell if I'm making a bigger deal out of it than it actually is.

I mean, you sometimes feel closer to one friend the other right? You can't help it.

So am I just being dramatic? Please be honest.

I don't think you're over thinking this at all. If a friend said that to me, I would be extremely offended. Maybe it's your friend's honest way of joking around, but I think you should make it clear to you that it honestly offends you. You shouldn't have to put up with friends hurting your feelings, and making them aware that their words often hurt you is definitely a good idea. I'm sure your friend would not like you to say that to her, and she should be more aware of how her words may affect you. So I think you should talk to her, and see how she takes it. I'm sure that she will be understanding of the way you feel about this. Best of luck

Hi Sam,

I don't think you are being dramatic about this at all. I know that if one of my friends said that to me, I would feel every bit as upset as you feel right now. It wasn't a fair thing to say to you and she should have known that it would be hurtful.

It could be that your friend did not understand exactly how her comment would make you feel. She might consider having you as the 'Jacob' in her life as a really big thing and it's really important to her.

What really matters right now is that it was hurtful and she should know that she hurt your feelings. Try talking to her about it and explaining that her comment really bothered you. Maybe she did not mean it to be that way or tried to fit her situation to an analogy that really doesn't fit. Find out where she was coming from with it and make sure she understands how you feel.

I hope things work out with your friend.
Take care.

Nat.
