Real life family and friends + Facebook = bad - July 20th 2010, 05:19 PM

I suggest you never use Facebook to talk to family you see everyday. I made a simple comment on Facebook yesterday about work which just was saying,"back to the hell hole!" and resulted in 'ahahaha work full time'

I wanted to say this so bad..

First off it is retail, you never get good hours or pay. Our store won't give us more hours because our pharmacy staff were recently cut hours. They aren't giving me more hours probably due to me going back to college this Fall. I have never been full time at this store due to those restrictions in the work study program in high school .

I am close to just deleting my FaceBook account because of everyone thinking they can be snobs on it because they aren't saying it to my face.

So advice on this matter please?

I'd suggest using the Block person feature on Facebook for people you don't want seeing what you put on there. This will not allow them to see anything that you put up and they cannot contact you via Facebook.

I know that my parents have Facebook accounts and creep on my page, but I think I clicked Privacy Settings and then clicked Customize Settings and by Posts by me there is a drop down list to the right which gives you about 5 settings, and you can select Custom. With this you can select only the people you want to see it, and everyone else will be left out. If you don't want to go through every one of your friends, you can create a list in Facebook Chat with everyone of your friends you don't care seeing the things you want, then the ones that are not in that list are the ones that will not be able to see the respective categories.

Just for an example my family can see everything but my wall, which they probably would not be happy to see what is posted on that

BTW, if you want to block someone, the privacy statement is as follows and will completely block them from seeing anything from you on Facebook:

Quote:
If you block someone, they will not be able to find you in a Facebook search, see your profile, or interact with you through Facebook channels (such as Wall posts, Poke, etc.). Any Facebook ties you currently have with a person you block will be broken (for example, friendship connections, Relationship Status, etc.). Note that blocking someone may not prevent all communications and interactions in third-party applications, and does not extend to elsewhere on the Internet.
Hope that helps.

I personally don't have facebook due to this very thing. I don't even see why people get obsessed with it, however me not having it annoys my friends :/.

If I had facebook, I wouldnt want people I work with/managers/teachers or family reading what I or my friends would be saying, as it can cause problems.

Yeah, I don't ever post on my wall or Facebook often because of this. I don't have any managers, teachers, co-workers, etc on mine. ;/

I would delete it.. But that's my opinion, I hate facebook, I really do, and I sound like a grumpy old woman saying it I only use mine through force haha.

Firstly, I would never slag off your work in the public eye. Anyone could see it, and if your boss see's it, thats it, you're fired. Why would they want to hire someone that called it a 'hell hole'

secondly, if people you dont like are kicking off then dont have them on your facebook. Thirdly...well...learn how to laugh at yourself?

People are obnoxious on Facebook. Personally I don't add family members or family friends.

If anyone annoys me I quickly delete/block them. Facebook is a good form of communication and keeping in touch with people you'll probably never see again.
