Cool in High School? - August 27th 2010, 11:31 AM

Do you need to be that in order to be cool in university/college/20s?

How does one acquire popularity in their 20s/uni in comparison to when one is in high school?

High School != University.

The way I've had it explained to me is that in university, because of the sheer size of the place there's no sort of "popular" crowd, rather small groups of people so it's not so much a matter of being cool as building your own particular group. Actually apparently quite a lot of students who were popular in high school have difficulty adapting to university as they are forced to leave their social group and work at making friendships. Also afaics there's considerably less machoism, or at least it's gentlemanly machoism so the idea of "cool" kind of breaks down...

You know its funny, after high school it all changes. the whole "popular" "cool" thing just kinda dissappears. Once real life starts, that all seems to be put in the past. I mean College is so big and there are so many different kinds of ppl and ideas and ages that it all kinda blends together. The whole Jock/nerd/prep, etc thing is no more.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

College is where it's at

You can lose yourself. Everything. All boundaries. All time.

And just when the sweet confusion is so intense you think you're gonna die... you kind of do.

Leaving you alone in your separate body, but the one you love is still there.

That's a miracle.

You can go to heaven and come back alive. You can go back anytime you want with the one you love.
