I'm so sick of having suicidal friends. I want to be the suicidal one for a change, the one to be taken care of. Is that so bad? Is it selfish?

Hey there,
I don't think it's necessarily selfish because everyone wants and needs people to be there for them from time to time. It's human nature and it's actually good for you to have that support. My friend once put it one way which I think explains it really well. Imagine yourself as a jar of sweets, when you support someone else you're giving them a sweet from the jar. If you keep giving out sweets without someone else giving you a sweet in return then eventually your jar is going to end up being empty. You need that support from others to keep it topped up so that in return you can keep being there for others. Does that make sense? However, I think it's difficult if someone who is suicidal is being supported by someone else is suicidual without any outside help. It's important to have a strong support network made up of different people. If you're finding it hard, draining or frustrating supporting friends who are suicidal, how about suggesting them finding other, perhaps more professional help? And also looking for that for yourself? Or to sum all of this up; for anyone to be in a position where they can support someone else, they need support themselves, and in no way is that selfish. I even heard your mamma wanted some of this...
