Paperback or Hardcover? - May 18th 2011, 02:35 AM

A simple poll. When you have a book, do you prefer it to be paperback or hardcover? And why with your preference?

I prefer paperback just because it's easier to carry with me wherever I go and it's more comfortable to prop up when I read in a weird sitting position.

I like hard cover because it's less likely to get all bent up, I always carry a book in my bag that I keep my therapy stuff in, hard covers don't get messed up as easily and they look nicer.

Depends on what purpose the book has. If it’s a book for school I prefer paperback they are easier to carry around and smaller and I also don’t care about diminishing those books usually paperback books rip or bend when they are in my possession . If it’s a book I read on my own time I prefer them hardcover because usually I read on my bed and paperback books are not that comfortable when you are trying to read lying down.

Paperback. Simply because it's cheaper.

But if it's a new book that I really want, I'll suck it up and buy the hardcover. Otherwise, always paperback.

Paperback, they're cheaper, easier to carry around AND when you first open them it's more satisfying to snap the spine of a paperback than a hardcover

I can also fit more of them on my bookshelf too >.>

I like hardback, they look and feel so much better, and a collection of hardback books just looks impressive

I like hard cover because after I read them a lot of times I either sell them (because they stay in good condition that way for me), or make them into an alter book. Or just destroy them at my whim. Hollow them out. Use the hard cover and tear out all the pages, etc.

Paperback all the way =D So much more comfortable, lighter, cheaper, and it isn't that hard to keep them in a relatively good condition :P

Either, theres pros for both.
Hardback gets less damaged.
But paperback is lighter to carry around.
Whatever I can get at the time really.

Paperbacks because

a) hardbacks are too expensive
and b) paperbacks are easier to bring places.

All my paperbacks are in great condition...

Paper backs since they're cheaper, easier to carry, and easier to keep open. I can deal with hard cover if I really want to read the book though. =)

I have no preference actually. I love reading, so to me, a book is a book.

I don't have to worry about damaging a hardcover, and I tend to not be so nice to my books...

“I cannot prevent anyone from getting angry, or mad, or frustrated. I can only hope that they’ll turn that anger and frustration and madness into something positive, so that two, three, four, five hundred will step forward, so the gay doctors will come out, the gay lawyers, the gay judges, gay bankers, gay architects … I hope that every professional gay will say ‘enough’, come forward and tell everybody, wear a sign, let the world know. Maybe that will help.” Harvey Milk, 1978
