50 Books Challenge. -
July 28th 2011, 05:47 PM
I've decided, thanks to many wonderful people here at TH, to do the 50 books challenge. I've already finished one, and you can follow my Tumblr blog to see how I'm progressing. The link for my blog is 50bookschallenge.tumblr.com
Also, the list of books I'm reading is also provided on my first entry. |

I thought about doing that challenge this year. I actually kept track of the books I've read since the beginning of 2011 and I'm almost at fifty now.
"Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it." |

Huh, I haven't heard of that challenge before today. It sounds like a good idea. Maybe I'll do it next year.

Pretty much you just read 50 books you've never read before the end of the year. Those are the basic rules. But all sorts of people have all sorts of rules, for me it's a competition between me and a roommate so we have stricter rules than that (but we're also going higher than 50)
"'Colie, you should never be surprised when people treat you with respect. You should expect it.' I shook my head. 'You don't know--' I began. But, as usual, she didn't let me finish. 'Yes,' she said simply, 'I do know. I've watched you, Colie. You walk around like a dog waiting to be kicked. And when someone does, you pout and cry like you didn't deserve it.' 'No one deserves to be kicked,' I said. 'I disagree,' she said flatly. 'You do if you don't think you're worth any better...'" |

Do you pick whatever books you want and do you do it as you go through the challenge or before hand? I love this idea! Xxx

You can do Melissa, it varies. Some people, like Shannon, are following a set list. Others, like me, are just reading 50 new books in a year. Others might even allow re-reads

. I thought I'd make a new blog than using my blog on here! That's more for personal stuff. I'm almost done reading my second book now, so keep a look out for my next entry guys! For me, I preferred to make a list so I didn't have to spend hours in the library or book store trying to find something interesting. I did general searches on Google looking for books people recommended, and I even joined the website GoodReads to help me with my search. When I compiled my list, which is the first entry of my Tumblr, I look up the books within the libraries nearby my home (We can check books out as long as they're within the Chicago Library System, thank God!). I'm reading a ton of classics, and right now, I'm about 100 pages away from finishing Catch-22 by Joseph Heller. So far, it's definitely a GoodRead

I think maybe I'll do this too
it seems neat and challenging
