Okay, so I'll be a freshman in September this year, I'm gonna be at a new school. I won't know anyone. I was bullied in the past. But, the only thing I could get out of was gym. :/ I'm never good at anything like dodge ball, softball etc.
And, if you're not good at something.. it's like you're the center of attention. Like everyone notices. Or, you would need a partner for something. I don't know how High School is gonna be. But, since I won't know anyone, and I hate being alone... I won't have a partner. Plus, I'm super shy. I just want to get out of it. I used to get so sick when I had to go to gym cause I knew/thought I would be alone. But, I was best friends/the teachers pet with my gym teacher. So, I could talk to her, or lie to her and say I was on my period. And, she'd let me sit out and do worksheets. (Which I don't mind) I just.. don't wanna do it. It may be confusing or stupid.. but, I will possibly skip that class if I have to. Help me... please? Kinda begging here.

Hey Michelle, I know exactly what you mean. I'm shy, uncoordinated and I hated gym too. I was also bullied by the jocks and criticized by the teachers and yeah. I have no idea why gym was coed, I've heard that it's not almost everywhere else. Unfortunately, you don't get out of gym in high school unless you are injured to the point where you can't participate and avoiding/skipping it will only make things worse. If you somehow fail because of that you'll just have to retake it. Just do the best you can and try to get through it. You'll make friends (you won't be the only one worried about this) and hopfully find at least one activity that you can stand. There are more team things as opposed to partner activities.

Great...can't I just take some extra curricular activity to replace it?

Probably not I'm pretty sure it's a state graduation requirment. Unless you have a disability or other physical injury that prevents you from doing regular gym, in which case they have to accommodate you by law, you'll have to take gym in order to graduate, there's no avoiding it. Will you have to do it all four years? I only had to do it for two.

Hey,
Gym is not the easiest class for a lot of people. I get exactly what you mean. I think you should give it a go though. You'd be surprised just how many people are as nervous as you are. When I started high school the teacher told me, knowing full well I HATED sports, that P.E would be good there. I didn't believe them for a moment, but by the end of it I'd made some good friends, and I'd gained some skills, all while having a generally decent experience. The great thing about high school is that it's much bigger. People come from all sorts of abilities, so don't single yourself out. Lots of people will struggle like you, and it probably wont be as bad as you think. Give it a go. ![]() Good luck, Hollie. ![]() Would you let me see beneath your beautiful Would you let me see beneath your perfect Take it off now girl, take it off now girl I wanna see inside. ღ |

I agree - I was never good at gym and that was my first class of the day my Freshman year. I made 2-3 friends by the first 2 months into it. Trust me, there are always people who hate gym and I'm sure you will make friends with them. I was in the 'hate gym group' which was like me and 5 other people that just basically sat there and watched. I hate exercising and my teacher knew it. But the only thing I want to say here is don't go into gym with negative thoughts. The more negative you have inside of your head the worse this is going to be. It may suck, and you may hate it, but the fact is its only for a certain amount of time and you might as well go through it with more positive thoughts than negative.
Best wishes, Chris Chris Jackson
