Stress about College -
June 5th 2011, 09:21 PM
(If this is in the wrong spot feel free to move it.)
Lately I have been super stressed about college. I start in August and I'm already freaking out. I have been worried about housing, the actual classes, and most of all financial issues. I'm worrying that I won't have enough money to stay in school or stay in the apartment I'm moving into. I started online registration today and I was so worried and stressed that I was on the verge of tears. My mom isn't helping the matter by acting like I am no where near prepared for college. I just really need advice for what to do, I guess for both college points and stress issues. I know exactly how you feel, so you're not alone! I got a full tuition scholarship, and I STILL don't have the money really to be going to school, and I know I'm going to be in debt the rest of my life, and it sucks. xD
But you're doing the right thing-College will help you for the rest of your life, and you are awesome for going. The best thing to do is breathe-know it's going to be hard, you're going to be in debt, you are going to miss home sometimes, and you are going to be stressed sometimes from the academics. But you'll make it. If you weren't smart enough to be going to college-You wouldn't have gotten in! <3 PM me if you ever need.

I wish I would have gotten a full-tuition scholarship, but I did get $1,500 in scholarships and I plan on working through college. But I really do need to find a new job, because the one I got, isn't going to cut it. I really hope that I'm not going to be a college kid who will be up until 3 in the morning studying.
Maybe, I'm just one of those people who will be a constant worrier. I know exactly how you feel. I was a constant worrier all the way through school and just graduated with my bachelor's. If you were able to do the work in high school, college work won't be as bad as they make it sound, especially in the beginning, but you will want to skim your reading since there's no way anyone would have time to read as much as they give you. Organization is an absolute must or assignments will sneak up on you, use whatever organizational methods work best for you as they don't care how you organize yourself as long as you get your assignments in on time. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask me!

Have you tried to get financial aid? If you qualify for it, it really helps. I always thought I wouldn't be able to go to college because I came from kind of a poor family and there's still no way I could afford college. But with financial aid, all my tuition is payed for, plus I get extra living money every semester. Maybe look into it.
As for the anxiety, yes college is hard sometimes, but I love it and you probably will too. Knowing that you're working so hard to make something of yourself is a great feeling. Once you start, I'm sure you'll love it.

Financial aid is amazing. You can also get student loans too, you'd have to pay them back eventually but usually not until you're out of school and you can pay a minimum each month even then.
You'll probably be stressing all summer, but once you get there it'll probably be a lot better. That's what happened to me. "'Colie, you should never be surprised when people treat you with respect. You should expect it.' I shook my head. 'You don't know--' I began. But, as usual, she didn't let me finish. 'Yes,' she said simply, 'I do know. I've watched you, Colie. You walk around like a dog waiting to be kicked. And when someone does, you pout and cry like you didn't deserve it.' 'No one deserves to be kicked,' I said. 'I disagree,' she said flatly. 'You do if you don't think you're worth any better...'" |

Thanks for the comments. I applied for financial aid, but I still haven't heard back from them about how much I will receive. I know I will have to take out student loans, which is going to be a lot, since I will be in college for eight years to get my degree.
