Does not even know if this belongs here (phobia) -
August 12th 2011, 04:40 AM
Ever sense I was a child I never could stand heights, just the thought of it makes me tremble and a fear rush threw me. This is not me going really high up either it also comes to people picking me up, even if it is just a inch off the ground. Now my girlfriend who does not understand the fear of heights wants me to get over it. I can't just do that, one of the reasons why is when she wanted to ride the ferris wheel with me and after several minutes of convincing me she got me on the chair than i ran off as fast as i could freaking her out than us fighting over it. Next is a scooter, i thought it would not bother me but it did and as soon as we started going I was freaking out and tried to make her stop. Everyone else was having so much fun with it but me, it is not attention seeking it is something I cannot do like a condition response but how do I make it stop?

Hey Joy
![]() I think you're girlfriend needs to understand that when you have a phobia of something you can't just 'get over it'. It's something that's there, deep rooted in your mind. To get over something you are this frightened of it requires professional help and support. I really feel you need to speak to your girlfriend to help her understand how frightened you are of heights. Maybe you could do a little bit of research and show her some websites that can explain? Have you ever thought about getting some professional help for your phobia? It can't be easy for you having a fear like this on you're mind all the time. Would you ever consider something like that? It might be something worth thinking about Take care

Yeah I told her after she kept bugging me about it, but pro help maybe a little tricky because I do have a therapist actually but we are focusing on my anger issues but maybe I can ask him about it thank you.

Definately ask him about it Joy, it's worth a shot and you've got nothing to lose!
