Exam music 'Tempo di insouciance' marking D: - August 25th 2010, 10:21 PM

Not sure if this is the right place for this...

I have a piano exam piece with 'Tempo di insouciance' written next to the tempo and I'm stumped as to what it means. I asked my music teacher, and she doesn't know what it means either. I tried googling it, without much luck.

Anyone have any ideas what it means? My exam is on Tuesday, and there's a chance I'll be asked what it means

Insouciance means not caring, so it could mean that you're supposed to play carelessly? I've never heard it in a musical context, though, so I could be wrong.

If Acheron is correct in saying it means not caring, then it could mean carefree, so maybe relaxed or something?

What grade is it you're taking? Maybe try getting hold of a music theory book of the same grade and it might tell you.

Sorry I wasn't much help.

I suspected it was something along the 'careless' line, but it seems odd, considering the piece has a very tight rhythm :l It's grade 4 Trinity College Rockschool, and after looking round a few music shops, I couldn't find any related theory or sight reading practice.

Thanks anyway
