What might help is listening to people speak English; watching youtube videos or listening to books on tape.

I'm learning a language at the moment too and it's hard work, so good luck, although your English sounds pretty good already To iprove your vocabulary I'd say...read as many books in English as you can. Watch TV shows and movies, even if you need subtitles at the bottom in Hebrew it can help. Listen to the radio in English if you can. Talk to people in English as often as you can. The trick to learning a language is just immersing yourself in it and really wanting to learn. Best of luck.x

Repetition is the key factor when learning how to read, write and expanding your vocabulary. The best way is by reading content you find on the forums or in books ect. The reason for this is simple words are spelt how they should sound however there are odd words like ‘phone’ which sounds like ‘fone’. When you hear a word it can easily be misinterpreted and pronouncing it may come as a struggle. The English language is difficult because of the several different slag terms and how words are put together that mean one thing but in reality means something completely different.

Example: “That’s so sick!” Some people would say that meaning its cool or good. While others my use it for its literal meaning depending on your audience the language may vary in some cases. Also the English language changes from country to country, in the UK their slang terms mean nothing to a Canadian, while ours means mean nothing to them.

Whenever you come across a word which isn’t common to you I’d suggest checking an online dictionary and it will be able to help you sound out the word and each syllable in it. It’s always a positive thing to be able to read and write in multiple languages, I’m a strong believer in practice makes perfect so keep at it! Once you find something you enjoy stick with it. Learning can be a struggle to some people but it all comes down to putting in the best effort you can. Keep in mind however some content on the forums isn’t grammatically correct.

From the post you’ve created I can tell you’ve got a good start keep it up and you’ll become a natural in no time, especially in your case when you want to learn your more apt too.

Good for you.

reading is a fantastic way to boost your vocabulary. Read everything - magazines, books, cereal boxes, everything.

I usually go to the "Current Events and Debates" forum here and there are articles people post and many other people write a lot so I just read there and I also try to read all the news in English. Even though I do have a good base but sometimes if you don't practice it you forget it.

Do you mean slang?

Because slag is really not a good thing.
From Urban Dictionary:

2. NOUN & VERB(Aussie) spit
3. VERB (British and Aussie) to put down, mainly used as the phrasal verb to "slag off" something

I guess it’s too late to edit my post, unless a moderator sees it and makes the correction because I’m not able to. But for the record I did mean slang.

Thanks for making that point Angle, the last thing I want to do is offend anyone.

There’s a great program for reading and writing on the computer. Its called Kurzweil, the program has a great spell/ grammar check system. This program has many uses such as speech to text and text to speech. I think this program would be ideal for someone trying to learn the language. If your interested here’s a link to their site. [Click here]

I hope that helps.

My best advice - do lots of reading, writing, listening and talking in English all the time. If you keep it up you will eventually learn.
