Geometry or Algebra 2 - April 16th 2009, 03:08 AM

Well I'm really confused about picking my classes this year....like last year i took algebra 1 and barely passed, i did horrible in it so this year i took the easy class, well now I can either take algebra 2, geometry or go back into pre algebra...i really don't want to go back into pre algebra cuz i've already learnt it last year (even if i didn't do well) So i'm stuck between algebra 2 & geometry, i really don't think i can take algebra 2 and pass it....I'm really more of a visual person & i understand simple geometry pretty well....but any thoughts about which one i should pick?? I really need some advice here!!!

In my high school, it went Algebra 1 then Geometry then Algebra 2. I found that we used some geometry IN algebra 2 so I'd take geometry first. :]

I would take Geometry first.

If you only need one of them then I think you've answered your question for yourself: you may be better in geometry. If you did bad in algebra I then it stands to reason that you'll likely do bad or worse in algebra II.

However, do understand that geometry typically goes with trigonemetry, which will require algebra. The algebra for that is minimal and very simple.

I've taken Geometry and I'm currently in Algebra II. I suggest that you take Geometry and then go to Algebra II. That is actually the required order at my school.

You seem to know the answer..So take Geometry.

Don't take Algebra 2 if you know you're bad at it..But remember that some type of algebra may creep in to geometry, so be prepared.

Go with geometry. Algebra 2 will be easier the next year

Same here. And I agree, I took them (had to) in that order and I think it worked out for the best that way.

I agree. Geometry prepares you for Algebra 2
Although it's not bad to do it the other way either.
Whatever you think sounds best for you

Re: Geometry or Algebra 2 - April 24th 2009, 02:04 AM

Again, as I've stated in another thread about math. I went through a process with Algebra that I actually repeated.

I know it's TOTALLY lame, I hated every minute of it, but did you ever consider taking Algebra in the summer time (to try and relearn it again, and get a better understanding of it)

Because, the problem with algebra is that it builds on itself. You will use 99% all things in Algebra in Alg 2, Trig, Cal, and even some in geometry. Algebra is everywhere in the real world too.

"I have 5 dollars, and there's a sale for buy 2 candy bars for 1.50, get one half off, how much will I have left over? Will I have enough?"

Just an example, of a very minor, and very common thing you do in your daily life.

It's important you understand the material, and if you run away from it - trust me, it WILL be back and it will be very much in your face and you'll continue of this cycle where you feel like math is hard.

I suggest you retake Algebra, even if it's just the summer time so it won't effect your classes in the Fall.
Plus, it's not the WHOLE summer, my summer class was 13 classes.
