Kind of angry about having to take orchestra - September 22nd 2016, 02:22 AM

I don't like the class, and I never have. However, I do more or less like playing viola, and am decent at it. The problem is, you have to be enrolled in the school orchestra to join extracurricular ones like All-State and All-Suburban. I would much rather do some other class, like art or French in that 45 minutes. This rule makes no sense--doesn't the fact you're trying to get in show your dedication enough? Why are they forcing me to choose between ambition and my other interests? This is more of a vent post, really. I'm sticking with orchestra until senior year. But its just so incredibly asinine of MSHAA to have this regulation.
If you're wondering why I joined up in the first place, it was because my friends were all continuing after elementary school, and though I wanted to do chorus or band, those were filled with the obnoxious, spoilt, stupid, or just plain
mean kids that I had no desire to associate with.

I'm not sure what business with your profile your talking about.

I'm sure the issue with having to join orchestra is really frustrating. I mean, why should you have to do that + join one of those other things when you could take French + one of the other things and actually get 2 courses / benefits instead of 1.

I can also see if from their point of view though, which is that they probably don't want to have to spend as much time teaching people stuff - leave that to the school orchestra's right? You can probably take courses later in French or whatever else and it'll be ok.
