need money for college - January 15th 2009, 01:28 PM

I'm a sophmore in highschool, and already super excited about college. I was planning on going to an out of state college until recently my parents informed me that they can't afford to send me to one. I honestly cannot stand the thought of staying here. It wouldn't be so bad, except I'm intressed in art, theatre, and english. All the schools in my state focus more on math and science. So I was just wondering if anyone knew what i can do to start applying for scholarships now. I was also wondering if there were any art shows that offered scholarship money as the prize? I have a bunch of artwork just laying around.

google or any internet search engine can help you. webfast.com has alot of scholarships and interns. ask your guidance counselor at school if they could help you find out if there is anything you could do. Get involoved with various different activities. the more you do the more scholarships you can apply for.

if you come up short, by the time you are ready for college you will probably be able to get a student loan.

You can try www.fastweb.com where they have tons of scholarships [that's where I got most of mine]. You can search www.google.com or ask your school counselor about scholarships, too.

Think of your student loan as in investment in your future. If it's possible you could get a part time job to help pay for it but do not let it compromise your school work.

It is generally best to ask for help from a teacher at school - someone who knows on a professional level
