Arrow Careers for the broken hearted is in the arts - June 15th 2009, 08:27 PM

I just thought I'd throw this out there, for those who are similarly 'broken' always going back to being downtrodden in some ways, while still somehow floating above the surface. The best career route is something in the arts.

Pick your poison. Actors, directors, writers, musicians, artists, etc. All are careers where the broken seemingly thrive.

Quote:
ACTORS

"I don't handle fame well. Most actors on most days don't think they're worthy. I have no idea where this insecurity comes from, but it's a God-shaped hole. If I knew, I'd fill it, and I'd be on my way."

"Actors are instinctual. The good actors are all screwed up. They're all in pain. It's a profession of bottom-feeders and heartbroken people."

- Both quotes by Shia LaBeouf
Quote:
DIRECTORS

"I think every film I make that puts characters in jeopardy is me purging my own fears, sadly only to re-engage with them shortly after the release of the picture. I'll never make enough films to purge them all."

"All those horrible, traumatic years I spent as a kid became what I draw from creatively today."

- Both quotes by Steven Spielberg
Quote:
WRITERS

"What happens to a man when he spills his heart on a page and he watches words flow away... For someone who cares to read them... You can see that this broken soul is bleeding. So you can see your feelings inside yourself. And wander through my heart. Letting you see through me. Now only consumes me. Forget your pain, watch me fall apart."

- Three Doors Down. 'Pages'
Quote:
MUSICIANS

"Blaise Pascal called it the God-shaped hole. Everyone's got one but some are blacker and wider than others. It's a feeling of being abandoned, cut adrift in space and time."

- Bono
Personally, I'm heading into film. I'm going to be a screenwriter. Already have all the hook-ups and connections needed to make this dream a reality. I have an internship with Warner Brothers coming up and friends with the son of an academy award winner. So, it's all more or less within my reach now and the hard work is starting to pull off.

But, I'd say - it's not really hard work. Others see something in me that I can't truly see myself. There's constant doubts and sometimes I can't understand how and why I deserve to have everything coming together. But, somehow it is. The god-shaped hole is my gift and curse, gift in that it fuels whatever talent I may have, curse in that it takes a lot out of me psychologically and it never ends.

So, as said, for those who are similarly 'broken' - which, being on teenhelp, I'm willing to say a lot on here have problems. We all need help. We all need somewhere to vent. However, you can turn venting into a career - it helps to slightly balance things out. Just thought I'd throw this out there for those wondering what they should do in their future career wise, the arts seem to be the one place where the broken hearted thrive and become successful.
