I know the U.S. economy sucks but geez.... - July 8th 2009, 07:13 PM

So I've been trying to find a job forever and either I'm not qualified, it's too far away, or it's a scam. The scam thing almost happened today because I was supposed to have an interview with what I thought was an office/receptionist job and I got curious and typed the address into google maps. The place was a crummy little store or garage and they never did tell me their company name but I found it and googled and it turns out they were basically trying to get people to sell knock off perfume.

I've seen these people in the downtown area of chicago and they are really annoying the perfume sucks and they actually get arrested because it's illegal to sell stuff without a license. I can't seem to land a job and all I have is school and I'm going to get an associates in social work/counseling and yet I still need some cash to eat, pay my cell, gas money when i get a car, etc.

Any tips or something?

Hey Steve! =]

Yeah, the economy every where it pretty bad right now, and you're certainly not the only young person struggling to get a job! The best thing you do is to keep looking! There's nothing else to it.
Hand in your résumé to everywhere you can think of, and even if they're not hiring, ask them to put your name down in case anything comes up in the future. Keep your eyes pealed for any notices about hiring, and ask around.
Perhaps ask some people you know if there's any jobs they know of that are available? With the way things are going lately, a lot of jobs are not really being advertised. So having connections can certainly help when looking for one. And definitely keep away from the risky scam jobs. =]

Good luck and I hope you get a job soon!

In Canada, it sucks too. I know a lot of people right now that are trying to get jobs, and they're having no luck at all. Like Nicola said, hand out your resume everywhere. Even places you are fairly positive, you wouldn't even get hired at. Spread the love, so to say.
