Romeo and Juliet Suggestions - December 11th 2009, 03:17 AM

Well, I have to do an essay on Romeo and Juliet (we read the play) and we have to choose two characters to compare and contrast.

I don't know which two characters to write about that won't be too difficult, I've been thinking of doing Romeo and Juliet . Does anyone have any suggestions on which characters/what to do?

Thanks

How about Friar Lawrence, he was a friend of both Romeo and Juliet. And Juliet’s nurse, she was always giving Juliet advice of everything.

Oh it's been so long since I did this, but I did see about half an hour of it the other night on channel 4

It might be hard (since I can't remember most of it) but I think Mercutio and Tybalt would be interesting to compare. Tybalt seemed to be always standing up for his family honour by starting fights but it looked kind of like he was in it for the glory of being the 'big man'...if that makes sense. Meanwhile Mercutio was defending Romeo, he acted like he was the 'big tough man' but in the end, he was always protecting his friends and putting his own needs aside.

Or maybe I'm just getting this totally wrong since I studied it with an incompetant teacher 3 years ago

Personally, I think that you should do Juliet's Nurse and Romeo.

Juliet's Nurse was superficial, laughed a lot at her own jokes, and did have a lot of hidden sexual innuendo in her word choices. such as: "when thou comest of age, you'll fall on your back" I'm sure you can fill in the blanks there.

And, also, Romeo was very oriented around looks and he was extremely dramatic and quick to act without thinking.

Hope that helps
