Majors? - January 21st 2010, 10:18 PM

For those of you who are going to college, what's your major?

Mine is Physical Education. (:

When all your friends have come and gone,
And the sun no longer shines,
And the happiness for which you long is washed away like an ocean's tide,
When all the hard times outweigh the good,
And all your words are misunderstood,
When the day seems lost from the start
You must follow your heart,
You must follow your heart.

I don't mean to hijack your thread but for those of you who are studying psychology, What's your thoughts on it so far?

Double major biology and psychology (mostly neuroscience). May add in minor in statistics or simply do a few 3rd year statistics courses without adding a minor.

I only got two modules of psychology last year and they're over now, I wanted it to be my major. But I really enjoyed it. Applied psychology is a bit boring though...it's mostly just about research and research methods like surveys and interviews.

I'm a junior in college with a major in psychology and a minor in personal wellness (they require most of us to either add a minor or do a double major) Since I transfered with half of my credits done I didn't have time to double major, but I might've done criminal justice just because it's interesting.

Re: Majors? - January 26th 2010, 03:21 AM

I'm undecided.

Fall semester, I came in intending to be a Biomedical Engineering major (my college has one of the nation's top programs for BME). I took all the required 1st semester classes (Calculus, Chemistry, Computer Programming, Intro to BME, plus a general education seminar) and did well (As in all the engineering classes, B in the gen ed seminar). But I'm not sure I want to major in BME- I'm taking Psychology and Cognitive Science classes now, and I'm really enjoying them (meanwhile being bored to death by my Chemistry of Materials class- required for engineers, and I'm still undecided so...).

Computer Science, probably with a minor in Philosophy.

The atoms that make up you and me were born in the hearts of suns many times greater than ours, and in time our atoms will once again reside amongst the stars. Life is but an idle dalliance of the cosmos, frail, and soon forgotten. We have been set adrift in an ocean whose tides we are only beginning to comprehend and with that maturity has come the realization that we are, at least for now, alone. In that loneliness, it falls to us to shine as brightly as the stars from which we came.

Psychology and Dietetics. (Double Major)

I have yet to do much in either field but I will once I get my General Education done. I want to become a therapist and a registered dietitian. I really want to work with people who have eating disorders and I think it would be a great thing to be a registered dietitian.

I was going to do this, but I can't find a graduate school in Ohio that offers a grad degree in counseling. There might be one though I'll have to look again.

Here is are a few options I've found:

http://www.walsh.edu/counseling
http://www.ohio.edu/graduate/deptfac...reducation.cfm (This is an M.E. in Counseling)
http://www.heidelberg.edu/academicli.../MA_counseling

Really, when it comes down to it what's most important is that you meet your state's requirements for a counseling licensure.

Majoring in Japanese but learning 8 other languages, I may turn them into minors, also, minor in recreation and at some point I want to get a degree in music, so I'm figuring a generic BA of music would be fun, or! I just found out that Carnegie Mellon offers a degree in bagpipe performance. I do believe that to be the most awesome degree someone could ever get, so I eventually want to do that

Yeah, my plan is to essentially be in college forever
