What Languages Does Your School Offer? - February 8th 2009, 04:51 PM

As far as I know the only one we have is French although we used to have Spanish and German but I don't think they're still around.

Also, what languages would you like to do at GCSE/A Level or whatever?
I'd love to learn Swedish and Chinese.

Well since year 7 i've done French, German & Latin, but my school also offers spanish.

i don't do any languages at gcse, mainly because i failed really badly at all of them and just couldn't get my head around it really.

i'd love to be able to speak welsh because my dad speaks it fluently, he tried to teach me when i was younger, but it never really stuck.

The two main foreign ones are French and Greek at my school. I dropped French before GCSEs.
Did IGCSE in Greek and doing for A-level now.

I think they've offered spanish for GCSE to the younger classes but I'm not entirely sure.

I'd love to learn Spanish. I started little lessons but the teacher was crap and I never really retained anything.

My school offers French. I've been learning French since year 7, so I'm used to it. I'm taking French at GCSE as well. My dad is quite fluent in French so I guess that helps sometimes with homework and things.

I'd like to carry on learning French at A level, I think. It's good to know another language, in my opinion. =)

French, Spanish and German

You have to do two of those up to year 9 and then choose at least one for GCSE

its true that most people i will come across speak english, tis one of the reasons i didn't see any point in doing a language i don't enjoy and i'm not good at.

it doesn't necessarily mean they don't speak english, they may just prefer to talk in their own language.

foreign people could say the same about you, if you were abroad, walking around their supermarkets talking in english annoying them.

My school offers french and spanish.
Most people drop french between grades 9 and 11.
And alot of students take spanish for one year in grade 10, then drop it.

Everyone takes spanish from Kindergarden to 6th grade, then in 7th you choose: Spanish, Latin, French, or Manderin. And you can continue with any or multiple through High School.

Wow, I wish my school started Spanish at kindergarten. I'm jealous.

Spanish, Latin, French, and Japanese are offered here starting in 9th grade. You can take Spanish and French at the middle school in 8th grade for a high school credit. They have added some sort of exploratory language classes in the middle school, but I don't know much about them. They were added after I graduated.

My high school had French and Spanish. That was it. Yay small town.

However my uni has almost everything you could think of, from American Sign Language to Korean.

French, Italian, and Spanish.

In my city, you have the option to take French/Spanish/Italian I in 7th and 8th grade, or start at the high school level. The difference is that I is spread out over two years at the middle school level.

My school offered French and German but German was an extra after school thing and not part of the timetable.

They were supposed to offer Sign Language this year as part of an enrichment program but that totally fell trough which was annoying because that is something I would love to learn. I have picked up pieces slowly from my boyfriend and his deaf sister but I would love to be able to communicate with her better.

I would also love to learn Greek :P

My school does German, French and Spanish, as well as latin, although this is a dead language so doesn't count as MFL (modern foreign language). It is COMPULSORY for us to do a language to GCSE at our school, so we are all OK at them. I do German A level too. Ours is a really un langaugey year, so there are 7 people doing German A level, 7 doing French and 3 doing Spanish. Usually there would be loads more, particuarly in French...

They offer Spanish and French at school. There is only one French teacher though. She is German and speaks to us in German and we learn little French. I don't get why they don't have her teaching German.
My English teacher last year was French. She was born and raised in the country and no one could understand her and she often spoke to us in French.
My math teacher was an English major and didn't belong teaching math. We learned nothing.

At my school they offer:
Spanish
French
German
Japanese
ASL

But students can take language classes from other schools...
So I guess there's a bunch of other languages available, but I don't know what exactly.
