GCSE/AS/A2 thread for June 2010 - May 11th 2010, 07:53 PM

Don't worry someone else can start making these threads for the next set of exams because as of June 17th 2010 my school education is finalllllllly over, after 16 years!

I'm bricking it, but what else is new?

What exams has everyone got?

I've got:
A2 biology (unit 2)
A2 chemistry (unit 2)
A2 english literature (don't be disgused by the fact this is one exam. It is actually over 3 hours long)
A2 maths core 3
A2 maths core 4

And just because the world seems to LOVE ME SO MUCH right now, all my exams are over the course of... 6 days! With English Lit (The over 3 hour one) being straight after core 4 (the hardest maths paper I will ever sit).

I really wish my college let people take core 3 in january bc it would have been one less thing to think about but they don't so meh.

I know there are lots of GCSE/AS/A2 students out there, show yourselves and let's support each other through this challenging and hellish time
(my sister and I are both finishing our A2 levels this summer. I pity our parents, I really do)

(RAH)² + (AH)³ + RO(MA + MAMA) + (GA)² + OOH + (LA)² = Bad Romance

Religion is like a penis.
It's fine to have one.
It's fine to be proud of it.
But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around.
And PLEASE don't try and shove it down my throat.

Re: GCSE/AS/A2 thread for June 2010 - May 11th 2010, 08:05 PM

Oh this thread scared me as soon as I read the title....I have been dreading this thread.

I have...

24th May - AS Maths Core 2 (Resit)
7th June - AS Religious Studies - Judaism (Resit)
9th June - A2 Decision Maths
11th June - A2 Maths Core 3 (Resit)
11th June - A2 Religious Studies - Ethics 2
15th June - A2 Maths Core 4
16th June - A2 Biology Unit 4 (Resit)
17th June - A2 Religious Studies - Religion in society. (My boyfriends birthday, he has this exam too. Great way to say Happy 18th Birthday.)
25th June - A2 Biology Unit 5

My Mum and Dad are going on holiday for 2 weeks when I have 7 of my exams so their pretty lucky. It just means I have to get up an hour earlier to take care of any housework and take care of the dog so that is a bit of extra stress I could do without
Oh and I have my driving test on the 21st of May just to make sure I do go insane...

If I can make it to August without a nervous breakdown I will be surprised.

Right now I a practically living in school, I am staying behind after school everyday for at least one hour, 2 hours if it is maths. In May half term I am going in everyday so I'm like "What half term?"

Some people in my school have already finished for summer because they are doing 3 BTECs instead of 3 A levels and they have finished all their coursework and there are no exams so they are done.

I just know I am going to be bored all through July...August should be fun though since it's my 18th and I can legally go out and drink....especially on results day.

I'm like, so totally lost, Naomi has tried to explain the UK schooling system, but I can't figure it out.. How do you guys have so many exams? Do you have like different classes each day? Here in Canada, the most exams we have is like 4 in a semester...

For GCSE we have different classes each day.

So like Monday we could have Science, Maths, English, Music and French
Then Tuesday we could have Science, Geography, History, Games and ICT

You'll usually have about 2-3 hours of each subject you take at GCSE but some of mine were after school as well so that's how some people manage to fit loads in.

For A Levels it's a bit different but not massively. People usually take 4-5 AS Levels (the first year) and then drop 1 or 2 before they start A2.

So my timetable looks like this...
Monday - Nothing, Nothing, Psychology, Maths, Maths
Tuesday - Psychology, General Studies, Psychology, Biology, Biology

Also a lot of A Levels and GCSE's are modular so say you were doing Science at GCSE, you'd have some Biology exams, some Chemistry ones and then some Physics ones but they all count towards the final grade so if you an A in Biology, a B in Chemistry and a C in Physics then you'll probably end up with a B overall.

^ I know I'll do ok. I need an E to get an A in biology for example, lol. Things just aren't going great for me so I'm really thankful that I've done well so far so that I have that to fall back on.

How did your first one go?

It was general studies and not too well since I don't really care about it and all our teachers ever did was throw past papers at us rather than teach us anything we need to know =/

Re: GCSE/AS/A2 thread for June 2010 - May 30th 2010, 08:28 AM

I am 1 down 8 to go.
It was maths C2 which I have done 3 times now. Kept getting U's but I had one to one tutoring with my teacher after school for a month before the exam and I think I have got a D or C.

Biology is stressing me out because one of my teachers doesn't care. We still haven't finished everything so she is now she is rushing and is just photocopying the text book and giving it to us. We are going through huge topics in 10 minutes and no one has a clue what is going on.

I am going to get my Auntie down to help because she teaches A level bio. I have done nothing for my Unit 4 resit either.

I need a C in bio which is starting to look difficult when I am trying to teach myself full topics while the teacher spends 4 lessons talking about Glee, 90210 and Britain's got talent.

I am starting to have panic attacks like every other day now

Rach I guess it's good that biology is a subject you can teach yourself, better than having to do it for something like maths for example. I've taught myself the entire of A level
biology, it's hard at first but you do get into the swing of it and tbh I've developed a lot of self study skills from it... Currently should be doing actin filaments, meh. It's great if your aunt can help you!

Cara lol no one cares about general
studies, my friend didn't even go to her exam haha!

I am getting absolutely owned by maths at the moment. I'll really have to fight for an A in that subject - need high B's in both Core 3 (Gahhhhhh) and Core 4 (fuck off trig identities! I cannot prove you!). Mehhhh coming to terms with the B. Only need a B (actually if I get a B in English I don't even need a grade lol!) so it won't matter.

Rach you seem to have loads of stuff going on as well... are we the only A2 people on here? ... how are you dealing with the stress. It's kind of killing me.. x

Oh it is killing me too.
I have been having frequent panic attacks and I am just exhausted.
I have been going to sleep so early and then when I come in from school I will sleep for a few more hours.

This week so far I have been to the library for revision today, I couldn't go yesterday because of the bank holiday. I am going to school for the next 3 mornings for extra revision.

I have 4 exams next week all Maths or Bio. 1 I am very confident in, 2 I am fairly ok with and the other I just know I am going to fail again.

The worst exams are the week after which is when my Mum and Dad are away so at least the house will be quiet.

I thought this Uni offer would motivate me but it is just putting a lot of pressure on me and making me panic and then that is making me fail...
You offer is like double mine too so I can't even imagine how stressed you are.

I don't think I'm any more stressed than you, its higher but then I have marks from my other modules to fall back on.. tbh it sounds like you've got so much going on I would be more suprised if you weren't having panic attacks!

Which are you confident about? and not confident about? My tactic is always to focus my time on the things I'm least happy on.

I'm really unconfident about maths in general (core 3 and core 4).

*sigh* I need to fnish this english work then I'm going to have an early night. not that I've been sleeping lately.. been worrying too much!

I'm really unconfident about maths in general (core 3 and core 4).
I am really confident about my Decision maths.
I am ok with my Religious studies.
I am really panicky about my 2 A2 bio modules and Core 3 and Core 4.
I am actually doing fairly well at Core 4 (Just can't do the trig stuff) but I have no confidence in myself about it and when I get into the exam I know I will panic and mess up.

I got a U in Unit 4 bio and Core 3 in January so that doesn't help. I really wanted to at least have a grade so it was less pressure.
I am hoping my Decision maths grade will pull up my maths overall. With bio I am concentrating on Unit 5 as it is worth more and with my coursework should get me a good grade, (I like Unit 5 more too so that helps).

I have been staying behind after school most days and now I am spending most of my half term there, I might as well go and live there. No wonder I am exhausted now.

Re: GCSE/AS/A2 thread for June 2010 - June 1st 2010, 08:59 PM

Hmm yeah core 3 and core 4 are tough. I can't do the trig stuff either for core 4. My plan is just to learn all the equations like cos2A = whatever and then when it gets to the exam if you just write down the relevant equation (or which you think is relevant) that seems to get you marks. And if you can substitute in any of the equations that should get you another mark

Worse comes to worse give up and try the next bit! My teacher always says if you cant do it, write down ANY answer, then use that answer in the following bit cos they will give you error carried forward marks

Core3 i thnk is harder than Core 4.. all the fucking integration/differentation!

With biology IDK what to suggest. Plead with your Aunt to spend lots of time with you? Ironically my coursework grade is bringing me my grade down loads.. got a low C!

ALSO past papers for everything!

Re: GCSE/AS/A2 thread for June 2010 - June 7th 2010, 04:00 PM

R.S exam today.
I am unsure on how I have done, I think I have done well but I am really not sure. I don't think I have failed is again though. I am so happy I got my timing right though, I actually finished and got everything done.

2 down, 7 to go.

I got a C on my Decisions maths mock, I was close to a B and I lost a fair few marks on stuff I just forgot. Last minute revision session tomorrow to get that stuff in my head and then I should be on target for a B/C.

3 down 3 to go

I fucked up on Chemistry today but Psychology didn't go too bad. I'm stressing about Biology tomorrow because I so badly want that A but I don't think I'll get it

Well done guys.. we're getting there! And Rach that's great about Decision maths bc it will bring your whole grade up!

My first one is on Friday.. in all the past papers for chem/maths/bio I seem to be dropping like a whole grade due to STUPID mistakes, seriosuly stupid, yet even though I'm checking I don't seem to be picking up on them until I'm marking them.. GAH MUST CORRECT THIS...

Re: GCSE/AS/A2 thread for June 2010 - June 11th 2010, 09:14 PM

Halfway through now!!!!!

5 down, 4 to go.

The two today where not great. I had an exam clash and I did one at 9am and one at 10.30am. Maths wasn't too bad really. The R.S exam after was a very nice exam but my brain was in maths mode and I could not concentrate and word my work right or say what I was trying to say and I just messed the whole thing up. I really wanted to do R.S first...

Ugh rach I know exactly what you mean! I have English lit straight after core 4 on Tuesday and I KNOW I'll have th same problem. Glad that maths went ok
for you though, which was it?

I had core 3 on fri and I thought it went ok.. Some bits I def got wrong but overall I toed everything so yeah ok, not great but ok. Core 4 I've done way less prep though bc next week is mad. Tuesday core 4 and English lit, Wednesday biology, Thursday chemistry and then I'm done.. The unfairness of havig them all crammed in makes me livid, juggling the work has been a nightmare.. Core 4 done little because it's my lowest priority out of those.. Sigh... I'm feeling very crushed by my own failings atm
