40 years of the same job scares me - May 26th 2010, 11:34 PM

The title explains it.

I want to go into mental health nurseing for 10-15 years. So from when im around 25-30ish. Maybe a bit longer. Then i want to go onto working in a school as a pastrol support officer. Aswell as being a youth worker in my spare time.

Thing is i have no idea what qualifications i need etc to beomce a pastrol support office. Does anyone have any ideas?

I tried looking online for you, but I couldn't find anything, Your best bet would to be search the school that you'd be interested in going to. Also, workers at your school would be a great resource. Good luck.

So you know that being a mental health nurse can mean lots of different things. It's defintley NOT the same job for 40 years. You can work with eating disorders, people who have commited crimes, learning disabilites, strokes/demenia, rehabilitation wards, rehab wards... and lots more. Just saying that no job means doing the same thing for 40 years.

Religion is like a penis.
It's fine to have one.
It's fine to be proud of it.
But please don't whip it out in public and start waving it around.
And PLEASE don't try and shove it down my throat.

It depends on the school. And your actual role in the school. I know pastoral support people who actually teach a bit as well, in which case you would need a PGCE. But I know some who have no teaching qualifications at all. As Brittany said, your best bet would be to ask the school you are interested in and see what they say, each school will look for different qualities and different ideals, if you know what I mean. But as Naomi said - Connexions may be able to give you a more direct answer as the best route into it.

Keep those ambitions in your mind, don't ever lose sight of them. They will pull you through. <3
