Saturday Job - February 18th 2009, 11:37 PM

Well now I'm 16 I'm thinking about looking around for jobs so I can save up some money.

What sort of things do you do to get a Saturday job? Do you just go in the shop or wherever you want to work and ask if they have any going? And do you have to provide some sort of CV if they want to interview you first?

Just go into a shop and ask if there's any jobs going, if there is they usually give you a CV but sometimes even if there isn't they still do just incase.

For the non-UK people, what is this CV of which y'all speak so knowingly?

I'm also looking for a weekend job, but I don't know where I could get one. I'm working on getting my driver's license but until then I'm living in this retarded gated community that has NOTHING on either side of it and no bus stops. Gr...

Hey,

I'd recommend just going round the city centre, Nottingham is pretty big. Take copies of your CV with you because it does make you look more professional and prepared. If you need any help writing one, let me know. On the bottom you should always remember to put "Referances avalible upon request." I'm presuming you haven't had a job before, so you'll need referances. I'd advice asking your school and, if you have done anything like babysitting, someone you babysat for. If not, a neighbour to act as a character referance.

Make sure you're smart-casual or smart. Just walk into places and smile, ask politely "Hi, I was wondering if you guys are hiring right now?" If they say yes, hand over a copy of your CV -- they may also give you an application form. A job is rediculously hard to find right now. There are none going, so you will get mostly no's (we're in the middle of a recession, y'know). But if you go for long enough and you aren't picky about what you do, I'm sure you'll find something.

Boots and Marks and Spencer and other similar shops do their hiring online, and other shops will have the option of doing that, so just go around the websites having a look and see if there is anything going. The link is generally "careers" or "job oppertunities" or something similar, and at the bottom of the page.

Good luck!

Rachel

PS, I just tried boots and M&S for you, na-da. Sorry

PPS, you may find this site useful. http://jobs.thisisnottingham.co.uk/
That site (but the Derby version) is how I found my current job (been there over a year now)
