What colleges are you looking at? - April 18th 2011, 09:15 PM

Starting my college search... I'm probably going into International Relations/International Politics, and I'm looking for colleges in Massachusetts (mostly in Boston), Providence RI, and Washington DC. Here's my list...

Mass.
  • UMass Amherst (already looked at)
  • Amherst College (already looked at)
  • Emerson College
  • Endicott College
  • Tufts University
  • Boston College
  • Stonehill College
  • Northeastern University
Providence:
  • Bryant University
  • Providence College
I'm visiting both of these within the next few days, actually

DC:
  • Georgetown University
  • George Washington University
  • American University
New York:
  • Hamilton College
  • Marist
  • SUNY Oneonta
  • SUNY Ithica
  • Ithica College
  • SUNY Geneseo
Obviously, this list is huge, and I can't visit all of them. But it's the ones I'm actively thinking about. I'm from New York so I'm leaving those to the last minute. I can easily travel around the state. Soo, what's your list? And what do you want to go for?

Hey, I live in Mass and know every single one of those schools. I looked at Stonehill and my friends got into a lot of those schools. If you want some advice at all let me know.

I'm attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the fall as a Nuclear Engineering major. Other than that, I would have applied to:
McGill University
Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Rochester Institute of Technology
Stonehill College

Hey everyone, really cool! I love Lil'TeppyLala's post... Ireland!!!! So cool..

Edit: Oh, and update... today I visited Providence, and I have revisions...

I liked Bryant a LOT. It was really cool. But I have a new school..

BROWN

I LOVE BROWN. OH MY GOD. I visited the campus on a whim, because I doubt I could get in, and I FELL IN LOVE. That is the school for me. I am going to work super hard and study harder than ever before, volunteer, etc.. I will get into Brown!

And uhh Providence College? For me, as a personal experience, it was terrible. I didn't even stay through half the tour. We left pretty quickly. I'm agnostic and uncomfortable with organized religion, especially in educational and government institutions, and everywhere I went was stained glass windows and crucifixes, and there are required theology courses, and the brochure makes it clear just how religious the school is. Yeah, not for me! So at least I know about that one.

I'm going into mathematical physics/pure mathematics, so I'm checking out

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (First choice, if I get accepted, hands down)
Princeton University
Harvard University
Rochester Institute of Technology
Cornell University
NYU (not considering it too seriously for now)
Boston University

Not really considering West Coast or Europe until I'm starting my graduate program.

Univerity of Edinburgh - Masters of Research in Classics
Trinity College Dublin - MPhil. in Classics
Durham - MA in Ancient Epic
St. Andrew's - MLitt. in Classical Studies
University College Dublin - MA in Classical Studies

Its a real shame the University of Bath doesn't have a Classics department. I love that city.

@Bella - I have a friend who goes to Brown. He loves it there.

And from what I know PC is a decent party school. It's not COMPLETELY religious despite having a decent theology program.

Brown was... absolutely amazing. I fell in love the minute I stepped out of the car. They only accept 9% of applicants so I probably won't get in, but I'm still going to apply, and still cry if I get rejected ehehe

PC just wasn't my cup of tea. I was very uncomfortable there. The entire campus seemed like a church.

I never actually saw Brown, but I was offered a nice scholarship.
For me it came down to Stevens Tech and NYU-Poly. I am now officially enrolled at NYU-Poly. =]

I thought Boston was a great area to go to college, but for what Boston University was giving me, it was not really 100% worth it.

I wish I could to Sweet Briar, but I honestly have no reason to.

The other colleges that I'm looking at, though, are:

James Madison University
George Mason University
Johnson & Wales University (Especially if I decide on a career focused on tourism)

This is the first time I've heard of Sweet Briar. It sounds so cute!
I'm looking at a few universities in England and in the Netherlands. I'm very stubborn on this, my guidance counselor does not understand why.
