Team Captain - June 8th 2011, 03:17 PM

Okay, I need you guys' help. I want to have several sports next year, but I don't want to overload myself. I also want to make team captain in one of them. My choices are Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Track, Cross Country, or Cheerleading. How hard is it to make team captain in a new school on any of these teams?

I'm not so great with advice. Could I interest you in a sarcastic comment instead?

You shouldn't do more than one sport in each season or else you are likely to stretch yourself too thin. You won't be able to make it to practices and matches if they're scheduled at the same time, which they often are. Narrow down your choices of sports to one for each season. Which ones are you most interested in?

My school is relatively small so there isn't much competition present when it comes to choosing team captains. It goes by how dedicated you have been to the team and the sport because that usually is some indicator on performance. I don't know too much about what it is like at larger schools. If you're playing at the varsity level and have shown dedication to being on the team by playing every year, you are generally a candidate to be considered when the time comes for the coach to choose.

Try not to make this your primary goal, though. Do it for the love of the sport and good things will follow.
