(the hunger games spoiler)Books to read after reading mockingjay - March 22nd 2014, 11:24 AM

This thread has been labeled as containing spoilers. The contents of this thread might therefore describe important elements of a storyline that could ruin it for you. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

Looking for book series/stand alones to read after finishing the hunger games trilogy.
I've read divergent, Harry Potter, twilight, Percy Jackson, and was thinking if you could think of any other books that you would recommend to me.
I am fond of books with fantasy or sci-fi. Having a heartbreaking death or two is also preferred, as well as humour and something dark and sinister. A YA novel is a good idea.
So anything that would make you scream, cry, curse at a book is a good sign.

Dystopian YA Books
Delirium series - Lauren Oliver
Matched series - Ally Condie

Fantasy Books
Wicked Lovely series - Melissa Marr
A Song of Ice and Fire series - George R R Martin
Need series - Carrie Jones (although the last book in the series was a bit of a let down)

Seems like we like the same kind of books! Are you gonna see the Divergent movie?!? Here's some books/series I liked that are similar to those...
-Maze Runner
-The Giver and the other books in that series
-Maximum Ride (not great and pretty long, but the first few were really good)
-The Fault in Our Stars (That's one that basically has everything you're looking for, except it isn't sci-fi. VERY good though.)

I would definitely recommend the Uglies by Scott Westerfield, it's a series (I'm not sure how many books, but not too many)

The Program is a good one too, but only the first one has been released so far.
The Bar Code Tattoo is another pretty good one, I haven't read it in a while though so I don't remember it too well.
XVI and Truth (the third hasn't been released, I'm pretty sure)
Unwind by Neil Shusterman(sp?), followed by Unwholly and Unsouled
The Maze Runner and sequels.
Lockdown: Escape from Furnace is an amazing series (in my opinion).
Gone series by Michael Grant

Basically all of those are dystopian/futureistic/some sort of sci fi and all of them are YA

The Life As We Knew It series is catastrophic weather which is pretty good.

Oh man... The Hunger Games series... I loved those books but the ending was so terrible

You should definitely read The Mortal Instruments series. They're pretty much my favorite books, and it sounds like we're interested in the same genres. They make you feel like every single emotion And they're super adventurous. If you end up liking them there's another series too by the same author called The Infernal Devices. It takes place in the same fantasy world and stuff but it's a different storyline.

The Nightshade series is really great too. I actually need to finish that one myself but the first couple books were seriously awesome.

I hope you end up finding something you like! There's nothing more fun than having a new book series to get addicted to.

Have you read His Dark Materials?? - The trilogy with the Northern Lights (think it's called the Golden Compass in the US). I'm not that into fantasy but these were great books.

Yes! The ending was tear-inducing. It was a good idea though, i mean the series in general.
