Exclamation Movie weirdly triggered me? - January 23rd 2018, 07:41 PM

This thread has been labeled as triggering, particularly on the subject of suicide, by the original poster or by a Moderator. The contents of this thread therefore might not be suitable for certain sensitive users. Please take this into consideration before continuing to read.

My girlfriend and I watched a movie that contained a suicide scene (the theme of suicide was throughout the movie) and during the scene I felt this weird tingling sensation in my heart down to my fingertips. It hasn't happened before and I know it's related to the movie because it happened during the specific scene.

It was a relieving feeling but it also triggered me. Was it an emotional release from hiding my urges/feelings for so long? Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks for listening,

P.s. I didn't know where to post it so I chose this forum for the suicide/depression tag.

Hi Ash!

I'm going to move this down to the Movie and TV sub-forum of Media and Entertainment where I feel this fits more, and I am going to leave the triggering label.

Movies definitely do trigger me a lot. I was watching a show today about a girl with an eating disorder and it triggered me really badly. I try and stay away from those kinds of movies when I'm struggling as I feel it might push me over the edge.

I definitely think you're not alone in this, but it will be interesting to hear other thoughts/experiences!

Hey Ash,

You are not alone in this at all. A lot of people get triggered by movies and tv shows that have content like that. I sometimes will get triggered but a lot of the time it actually helps me not give into my urges. I think the best thing to do is notice what type of things in movies and tv shows give you this sort of feeling and then try to avoid them.

I can't tell you why you were triggered, but maybe you can spend sometime trying to figure it out.

I Hope this helped.
