Skins season 6 - January 18th 2012, 05:57 PM

Anyone still watching?

Episode 1 is up on 4OD and will air on Monday on whatever channel it's on (4? E4?). I quite liked it, but I'd forgotten how depressing Skins can be. The Alo/Mini storyline is gonna be hilarious, it has to be.

Love the abundance of hipster music already. Azealia Banks in the opening seconds!

I stopped watching that a while ago. Last I knew it was pulled but maybe that was misinformation or something Idk. Most of the episodes were ok, I watched it when i couldn't find anything else on, can't say I really miss it.

I know the American version didn't last past a season. In the UK it has consistantly strong ratings. Very different cultures...

I'm still undecided on whether I like the gen 3 cast. There are certain characters that I like, such as Mini, but there are other characters I can't stand, like Matty. I had to live stream season 5 last year, and unfortunately my schedule won't allow me the time to do that for this season. I've already been hearing about what's happened in the first episode/seeing gifs around the internet and it makes me want to watch it to find out! Gahh it's so hard to watch shows from the UK if you don't live there!

Definitely watching. Although I have to say I'm not liking this cast at all. Hoping Season 6 is better than 5 was.

In my opinion 3 & 4 had the best cast by far. Kind of miss it to be honest.

Re: Skins season 6 - January 26th 2012, 04:09 AM

I watched it but tbh I'm not sure if I'm going to be watching again next week. I just thought the first episode of this season was reaaally bad. And I actually liked gen 3 a lot more than gen 2. I don't get why Frankie had a personality transplant when she was one of the most interesting of this group.

I also just feel like they're trying so hard this go round. Some of the dialogue makes me cringe so bad, it just seems like some really sad lonely person is sitting alone trying to figure out what sounds edgy then making sure the actors deliver it in the most awkward way possible.

To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget

After watching the first episode, I don't think I'll be watching the rest of the series to be honest. It seems like drugs and sex are the only things that matter. It's painting a horrible picture of what college life is, when it is nothing like that. I don't know, it's so unrealistic and I don't think many people can relate to the characters this year... Which is kinda sad because that's what skins was good for in previous series.

I watched the first episode, it was crap. Skins really has gone down hill.

The animal instinct, the wanton man
She fed him with a hunger, an appetite
And fillin' with emotion he took a bite'

I didn't like season 5 at all, didn't think it lived up to the 4 previous seasons. But I watched the first episode of season 6 last night and thought it was an improvement. Still not as good as previous casts but definitely better than the last season

So agree w/ this. At least the sex and drugs in the first two seaons came off as kind of realistic (not that Skins has ever really been realistic). What I mean is that, say, Sid trying to lose his virginity, or even the group searching for weed- that seemed natural to those bunch of characters and while they didn't exactly live normal teen lives I can't remember anything happening where I thought "Wow- that would never happen in real life!"

In this gen it's like there conversations are like "SEX SEX SEX DRUGS DRUGS DRUGS" and it comes off as so abnormal. Like last season when they were at Grace's house and she's like "LETS DO COCAINE".

I mean... really?

How many college students really do coke? Especially so abruptly like that. And people like Grace definitely do not.

Finally someone who see's it from my view! Also, when would drugs ever be hidden in your car by some teenage drug lord in Marrakesh or wherever they were? When would you ever be threatened by them to drive over the border? It's just ridiculous. Frankie used to be the only good character in it, and even she seemed stereotypical in the first episode of S6

As predictable as episode 2 was, I still really enjoyed it.
