What instruments do you play?

I'm going to University, majoring in Music Therapy, and I thought it'd be interesting to hear what you all play!



I'm majoring in Guitar, I was taught classically (that means I can *gasp* actually read guitar music, not tabs) but I also play rock music, metal, punk, jazz, bossa nova, and my goal is to learn flamenco guitar next semester. I now have 7 guitars, three acoustic nylon string, an acoustic steel string, two electric steel string, and an electric nylon string.

I used to play violin pretty well for my age, but I quit when I picked up a guitar. Since then I've got my violin restrung and hope to start practicing it more when I have more time over breaks. I also used to play clarinet, but I sucked hard at that.

I'm also required to learn piano in school, but I'm not too great at it. I can figure out basic chords and scales quickly, and figure out advanced chords/scales since I'm also in Music Theory 3, and am starting to play hands separate fairly well. I'm NO MASTER though!

I also recently, as in today, got a cajon drum. I've played the one at my school a lot, so I pick up on rhythms fairly easily. Hoping to improve at this awesome instrument soon as well!
For those of you who don't know, a cajon drum is this Just ONE way to play the Cajon!



What about you guys? Only click what you currently play... Like, I only clicked violin, guitar, piano, and drums since I never was good and quit at clarinet within a year.

I have not played in a while, but I can play trombone and tuba. I have fiddled around on the euphonium for fun, but I never regularly played it.

My boyfriend is a euphonium major, and now I'm missing him again. Thanks a lot Alex. :P Music therapy sounds like SUCH cool major! What school are you majoring it at? I know a friend who wants to major that, and she's trying to find the right school.

I play clarinet, bass clarinet, and tenor saxophone. Suck at all three.

I go to Maryville University. Of all the schools in the USA, I HIGHLY recommend this one. At any other school, Theory is designed to make you drop out and piano/guitar class is a hard, vague class with 30+ students and one teacher that doesn't care. Hardest thing for some people to learn without a real teacher. Here though, my theory teacher is really nice and incredibly smart (top 10 pianists in America) and my piano class has a grand total of 6 students in it. Best school ever as far as I'm concerned, and I never get into school spirit.

I play the alto saxophone. I started playing two years ago. I picked it up because I wanted to join my school's marching band and I had already had an interest in the learning to play the saxophone. I haven't played in about five months though, needs repairs and I have no cash. I named my saxophone "Chauncey!"

I play some chords on the keyboard but that's the extent of my piano playing

I wanted to learn how to play the flute when I was just 5 years old. I had talked about it for YEARS, but my parents didn't think I was really focused so they wouldn't let me start. In 5th grade, when I was finally able to choose either band or choir, I chose band and went for the flute. I was playing in band and also took up private lessons.
Then, in 8th grade, I had taken my flute in for repair and noticed a pretty little resin piccolo sitting in the sale case at the repair shop for $70. I told my parents that the piccolo HAD to be my next step, so we talked to my private instructor who said that $70 was amazing and to go ahead and go for it.

I've been playing both flute and piccolo ever since. So... It's been about 12.5 years on the flute, and 9.5 on piccolo. Sadly, I've stopped playing in a band/ensemble setting, so the only time I really pick up my flute is to just play around on it for fun. Not to toot my own flute, but I'd say I was pretty damn good. I miss it now.

In the future, I can see myself teaching flute lessons for some extra money. We'll see!

I play piano and keyboard, though the last few months I've had to cut down on practice, due to uni taking up a lot of time
Piano: to Trinity College London grade 5-6ish classical and modern, though I've yet to sit my grade 6 exam. I've been playing for 8 years, lately been enjoying improv, and have composed a couple of pieces.
Keyboard I'm not so good at, but I really enjoy it, it's nice to jam along with friends, you can get some pretty cool effects with it.

I've got on average grade 8 on piano recorder and bass. I pluck the guitar occasionally. I mostly play the piano now. Double bass is a tough instrument to get hold of where I am right now, and playing the recorder would piss all the neighbours in my hall off. Plus I'm just generally more drawn to the piano, and have moved on to producing beats with FL studio over the past few years, but there's little progress.

Finger tapping doesn't count towards drumming though otherwise I'd tick that too. I sometimes really wish I'd have learnt drums instead of either the recorder or the bass. I'm more drawn to rhythmic instruments than classically founded instruments.

I play whatever is put in front of me. I don't believe in being graded on how good you are at an instrument, since if you can make music with what little you can do, you're still making music.

However, I've been playing guitar for about half my life so I'm definitely more proficient in that than anything else. The only instrument I've really struggled with is an accordion, they're awkward as hell.

Trombone- (Let me clarify here, I own one but I have no clue how to play it)

Voice- 11 years (meaning as long as I've been trying to improve singing)

Also basically I've only not tried strings and double reed instruments. But put an instrument and a beginner's book in front of me, I'll most likel;y be playing intermediate songs within a week. It's one of my talents.

I also took violin lessons for a while then stopped when my parents couldn't afford it. As for piano, my great grandma taught me some when I was small

It's been a while since I've performed, but I sing.
I'm actually in a band (if you call a group of passionate teenagers minus a guitarist and a bassist a band) and I write lyrics.
And I can't read music AT ALL.

I play French horn and flugelhorn (kinda like a trumpet on steroids ;D ). I also sing, and have adored music since an infant. Apparently when I was a year old I used to play this game with my dad where he would sing to me a pitch and I would sing it back perfectly. xD

I've played flute for 10 years (starting when I was in 5th grade) and before that I had taken piano lessons and can still play some (usually only play though when I get sick of playing my flute but still need to work on rhythms).

I also know some sax, some drums and am currently working on learning guitar.

I've fiddled with a lot of instruments (violin, flute, drums, recorder...), but as for actually learning to play them, I'd have to go with piano and voice. I like the idea of learning to play a harp, but it's too expensive.

If people ask, I tell them I play guitar. I'm not too great at it, and can just about manage to hack out some classic rock riffs. If anything, I'm a bit of a barre chord basher. I've been playing for 9 years now, which may seem like a long time, but for half of that I had no tuition and so stayed at the same level. I'm steadily improving, but I am in no way to be considered talented in the field, but I'm content with this, because I enjoy it so much. I own 5 guitars including a Fender Strat and an Ibanez hollowbody, the latter of which I had wanted for a good few years before being able to muster up the cash just before new years I've also been known to dabble in bass!

I haven't played in a while, but i played the flute and piccolo for 8 years. My band went to the sugar bowl in New Orleans to play in the half time show. That was the best trip ever!
