Body Worlds -
January 28th 2010, 07:32 PM
I wasn't sure where to put this thread, feel free to move it to the appropriate place..
I'm going to the Body Worlds exhibit this weekend and I was wondering if anyone has been to it. I have heard it's amazing to see, but I feel like it's going to be boring. It's in the Franklin Insitute here which gives me that impression even more. I'm going with a nursing student though so maybe it will be more exciting for that reason. I believe it's a worldwide exhibit too? Thoughts on this? When all your friends have come and gone, And the sun no longer shines, And the happiness for which you long is washed away like an ocean's tide, When all the hard times outweigh the good, And all your words are misunderstood, When the day seems lost from the start You must follow your heart, You must follow your heart. |

My friend has been to the one in Colorado, and she said it was really interesting, and she learned a lot from it. I guess it depends on the person though.

Oh I recognise that guy... he did this show called autopsy live.
You can probably guess what he did on the show... I was fine watching the show until it really sank in that it was a real person and used to be alive just like us.... then I freaked out. So to be honest I dont think I would go to the exhibition. Even though its interesting, its not for me. Also I think its ok because people have donated themselves. But then I dont because they havent donated themselves directly to him, only to medical science and maybe they didnt want to be on display? I dont know, but I do find how we work facinating, I just havent got the stomach for it. |

It just left California, so I have heard about it a bunch. Personally I never went, because I would probably be freaked out the entire time. Since they are real bodies, and their insides, and their muscles. There are even real corpses that were pregnant at the time, so you can see the fetus in the mother. And that just isn’t for me. But if you are going to be a nurse, I bet it would be fascinating. All of my nursing/pre-med friends really enjoyed it, and says it’s a must to do if you are going into the medical world. So, have fun. : )

I have the BEST body worlds stories :P If anyone wants to hear PM me because they might be a little inappropriate :P
When I was in grade 9 Body Worlds 1 came to our science centre, and the school was going on a field trip there the next year and my friend and I were all jealous because we weren't going to be there (moving up to high school) so our social worker took us after our exam one day :P It was soooo cool and soooo funny at times. I was happy that it was the social worker who took us because I probably wouldn't have enjoyed it so much if it had been my parents who took me. My parents went with my brother the night before I went though and it's just so awesome! I LOVE body worlds. Although now I don't think I could handle it :P Jen Buddy Proud Mama of 2 Adopted Dogs Koda- Shepherd/Malamute Penny- Lab/Redbone Coon Hound ![]() |

I really wanted to go to this when it was in the UK last year.
I told my Bio teacher to see if we could go as an A level Bio trip and then they took the year 10s as a GCSE trip. I really wish I could have gone. I know there is a room where the bodies are pregnant and you can see the foetus. This room is separate with a warning before you enter. I don't know if I would have been able to go into this bit, I think I would have at least tried to look. I want to work in healthcare so stuff like this interests me and I like to think I could cope with seeing this and not freak out too much. |

We had an amazing time, it was so interesting for us both. We saw the Body Worlds 2 exhibit actually. But my friend I was with went to the first one and said it wasn't much different, just a little less material was shown this time around. And yes, we saw pregnant woman with the baby still inside them, and babies alone who were from different stages in the pregnancy. It was a very interesting ordeal. I learned alot and so did my friend. She thought the exhibit was controversial even this time around, since some of the bodies are cut open in awkward positions and displayed weirdly. But as said above, the bodies were donated to science and so I don't think it's wrong. I feel so more aware of my body now, haha. It scared me a bit too to be honest. But in a good way. I highly recommend this for anyone, and especially nursing/medical students.
