My computer is batsh*t (Advice Needed) - July 4th 2012, 03:18 AM

My computer has gone absolutely insane. The copy and paste function has disintegrated over the last few months. When I try to highlight something nothing will happen, or the highlighted text will immediately disappear, or only portions of the text I highlighted will be highlighted so the highlight will begin or end in the middle of a word or sentence. Usually what happens is the computer will think I want to move the highlighted text when I try to highlight something so the beginning of the highlight will randomly move to the end.

It also shuts down on a regular daily basis. I get the blue screen of death on an almost daily basis. Sometimes, out of the blue, pixelated white lines will appear across the screen and I have to shut the computer down with the power button. If there is sound coming out of the computer it starts going, "EEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGG" when I get these white lines. A common theme is the computer crashing, me restarting it, and it crashing again.

Other than that the computer works relatively fine. It's not slow and all the programs run alright. The computer is called Dell Studio XPS. The operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I've had the computer maybe two years. It's a desktop.

I checked for viruses maybe a week ago and nothing came up. I think it's a problem with the hardrive because of the frequent blue screen on death. I had some trouble understanding what you were saying. I haven't added any new programs recently. Would you mind rephrasing a bit?

Check for a virus - you can use SuperAntiSpyware free, Malwarebytes, HitmanPro free (only scans, doesn't clean), and ComboFix (ONLY download this from bleepingcomputer or the legit website and READ carefully!!! ComboFix is very powerful and is not a toy)

Run some cleaners - Windows CleanUp! is good and try using Ccleaner - clean and fix registry issues.

If you think it is a hardware issue, do the pre-boot assessment test See This Link For Info

Leave the past behind, just walk away
When it's over, and the heart break
And the cracks begin to show

I told my dad and he said, "okay, I'll fix it." He scanned it and ran the Defrag program. It hasn't shut down since and copy and paste has had minimal improvement. Does anyone know what causes a glitchy copy and paste computer wide, even in word and all browsers?

Just a fragmented hard drive. You should really run a defrag once a month.
If it can't get the data from RAM to the hard drive quick enough that could explain the glitch... (Fragmented hard drive's are alot slower.)
