Windows 10 suddenly has problems - August 26th 2015, 05:02 PM

Hi guys, I've been trying to Google all the issues I am suddenly facing with Windows 10 and I am having no luck. I doubt anyone else is facing these issues but I'm hoping someone who is tech savvy might be able to help me. I updated to Windows 10 about a month ago and have had no problems, up until last night. I shut my laptop to watch a movie with my roommate, and when I re-opened it later that night suddenly a bunch of things were different.

1. Everything pinned to my task bar was gone. I had to right click and re-select to have my apps showing.
2. I cannot get any programs out of full screen mode into windowed mode. Apps that used to open in a small window are now full-blown full screen and I cannot minimize them at all.
3. My desktop is gone! I went into taskbar settings and tried making a Desktop icon but when I click on it, nothing happens. Right clicking it does nothing too. Alt+Tab shows programs I have open, but my desktop is no longer an option.
4. When I click the windows start button, I no longer have the little start menu that I was so happy was back, it now opens up a big tile menu, similar to how it was in windows 8. I can provide a picture if needed.

I tried restarting my computer but all of these issues are still present, and it doesn't seem some bad update occurred, this all just happened when I shut my laptop which is something I do all the time but it never randomly changed my settings like this. Any help is much appreciated!

Edit: I've also noticed in some apps I do not have the big X button to close it anymore on the top right. Instead, if I move my mouse up there, a little drop down appears with the X button. And when I open different programs, like switching between Chrome and Spotify, the animation reminds me a lot of opening Windows 8 programs instead of the desktop version.

I'm wondering if for some reason it's in tablet mode? To find out, go to settings, then system, then select tablet mode.

As for the start menu, that may be because of the tablet mode, but if not, go to settings, personalisation, then start and make sure that the 'use start full screen' is off.

Hope it helps a bit!

Holly you are my savior, that was it! I have no idea how the heck that happened, but thank you so much! I'll go ahead and close this.
