Slow internet. - July 23rd 2009, 07:24 PM

It'll be working fine and then it just starts to go really slow, and by really slow I mean nothing will load or it'll load really slowly and it won't let me receive messages on MSN and then I'll get signed out but the internet always stayed connected. It happened yesterday around this time, and my parents told me it's been happening to them as well earlier and I don't know what it could be causing it. A few days before it just kept cutting me off and then connecting again and now this. Sometimes closing Firefox can help speed it up a little but it doesn't last long before it goes back to being slow.

What could be the cause and is there any way to fix it?

I can think of a few things, It MAY be a virus in that case you should do a scan on your p.c on whatever anti virus you have, if you dont have one ican suggest a few really good ones.

It could also be a problem with your router, try plugging it out then waiting 30 seconds then plugging it back in. Also it could be the software for it, which ever internet service provider your with it shoulfof came with a disc that you can install/uninstall it.

With computer it can be so many things. I personally think its a virus thats jut casuing problems for your p.c Good luck and i hope your fix this problem.

I have AVG and it scans my computer daily and all it ever finds is tracking cookies, which I've asked about on here and people said they weren't nothing serious, I think. I'll try what you've suggested though, thanks x

Yeah, I'm on virgin but anything else I have no idea about. I'll go have a fiddle with stuff and see what happens. It's really frustrating how slow it is because it just takes forever to load anything and by the time it's loaded I forgot what I was going to do.

I didn't realise it did till you mentioned it, it does now. And I will try that and see what happens. It's not as slow as it can be but it's still slow and that's annoying.

I've unplugged the router or whatever and it's still made no effect, if anything it's gotten slower and I'm getting more frustrated because it's really taking forever to load up stuff.

Any other ideas?

Re: Slow internet. - July 25th 2009, 09:26 PM

Im a little bit of a nerd (little is probably not the right word lol) ive had this problem a few times, I found it being a virus usually, Urm i couldnt say i would advise ANY virus scans, i have had to reboot my computer a few times because of virus's BUT thats only my fault for downloading dodgey things (legit things but dodgey sites), Out of experience of peoples computers sometimes the actual virus scanner can act as a back door for virus's, If a certain virus gets through the net then it can act from the inside to let the virus scanner become the easiest door way, basically it could corrupt your virus scanner.

I havent always advised not to have a scanner, they can be great but my experience has taught me personally not to.

Just keep it in mind

It is probably a problem with your provider.
