Monitor Resolution - May 1st 2011, 10:34 PM

Just bought a monitor, a Samsung B2430HD. When the aspect ratio is set to 16:9, the screen lays off the edges. Using Fit to Screen reduces the quality of the picture, and so does lowering the resolution (max is 1920x1080). I have a NVIDIA GT435M, and the max resolution on my laptop is 1920x1080. I also have a cheap HDMI cable I got from my brother, his friend bought them online for like a dollar each. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Monitor Resolution - May 2nd 2011, 07:59 PM

Since you mentioned HDMI cable, I'm assuming that how you are connected, right? In that case, I took a look at the manual and found this:
When a PC with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 @60Hz is connected to the [HDMI (DVI) IN] port, you should set the <HDMI> mode to <DVI PC> in the <Edit Name> of the <Input> mode. In this case, a separate sound connection is required.

You can find this paragraph in Samsung's B2430HD manual, under Input section, where it mentions Edit Name.

And of course, you can download the latest manuals and drivers from here:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/do...s/LS24PTNSF/ZA

So if I understand correctly, it says that you should go to
Input --> Edit Name --> HDMI, and change the mode to "DVI PC."

And according to the manual, with this, your problem should be fixed (hopefully ).

Well, the manual was useless, but I figured it out. I had to switch from AV Mode to PC Mode in the Settings. Thanks.
