Installing a webcam? - February 17th 2012, 12:49 AM

So my laptop has Cyberlink Youcam installed. It's SUPPOSED to have a webcam but I'm guessing the place I got it from took it out or whatever the case may be.

1) is it possible to get a webcam put in?
2) how much would that cost?

I just want to video chat like everyone else does.

Just buy a USB cam, you can get them on Amazon for like 5/6.

You should be able to set it so that your software reads from the USB video input so you can use that too.

Oh. Duh. I totaly forgot that was an option. I just bought one.

12mp HD for windows 7 and its usb plug in. Hopefully its good quality. If not, its no big deal since I only paid $5 USD.

Can you tell us what your laptop's manufacturer (Dell, Asus, HP, etc.) and make model (Insprison 1564, X85Se, etc.) are?

If you're on Windows 7 or Vista, you can find these info by clicking on Start Orb ---> Right click on Computer ---> Choose Properties ---> Look under System.

If you are supposed to have a built-in webcam on your new laptop, then chances of it had been removed is very, very, very small, almost non-existent. I think we're probably overlooking something here.

This is what it says: Hewlett-Packard Presario CQ56-112NR Notebook.
However, the computer itself says it's a Compaq, as well?
I dunno.

That's fine; that's already a lot of info, enough for people to check what hardware and software you have, plus the OS.

Okay, I do not see a Cyberlink Youcam on the list of pre-installed software of your CQ56-112NR. It seems that your laptop never have any webcam built-in. Here's their product specification page: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...roduct=4308193

Some CQ56 models don't come with built-in webcam. For example, your CQ56-112NR doesn't, but a CQ56-110US does.

==================================

This video shows where teh webcam would be if you do have one. At least you would know what it look like if you do have one: "If you don't see the round circle inside, you don't have [built-in webcam]" http://youtu.be/Ek30eSDrWZ0?t=1m10s

Sorry that I can't help much.

I have that same cyberlink webcam. Are you sure it was removed or something? Like do you not see it? Because it could be that the settings have the webcam disabled. Personally, I disable mine if I don't use it in a while due to my paranoia. You can check this by going searching "computer management", then click "device manager" (which is on the right), then "imaging devices". If the webcam is there, it'll show the option to check the settings & you can check if it is disabled or enabled.

Just giving another option to check before going to buy more software & stuff.
