If you click this, there are tons of tips on how to wear a dress if you're small.
I'm short too, and I think that the best thing to do if you're petite is to wear a dress that isn't too long. One that hits just above or slightly below your knee. It'll make you appear slightly taller. Dresses with a longer length will just do the opposite. Hope I helped.  |

Yeah, I agree. Short dresses make you look taller, if you combine them with heels.

It doesn't have as high a waist as an A-line dress but it's not fitted far enough to be a mermaid style. I would say it's closer to an A-line. The rouching is forgiving on your tummy if it's not perfectly toned.

It depends massively on your figure. I'm that tall and I like things really fitted on my waist and then A-line down to about my knees, because it shows off my waist but forgives my ass.
Or nice, long and flowy thing with a good drape. It could make you look short but 5'4" isn't THAT bad
