Red lipstick and black eyeliner

I love my thick black eyeliner, its my day to day makeup. I love it when people can pull of the red lipstick and black eyeliner together...However its very easy to look like a clown. How do you make them work together?!

I have fairly small lips so surely it should work, but it just doesn't. Not quite anyway.

I don't suit red lip stick. I look like a transvestite. Not saying there is anything wrong wih transvestites it's just not the look I go for!

I tend to stick to more browny-type reds or just a pale lip gloss.

I'm jealous of people who can pull it off though.

I would suggest if you don't do it to make your eye line more cat like.Like pull it out, dont just stop at the corner of your eye. Also if you don't do both top and bottom try that. Also I would suggest applying it a little less thick if it is really thick.

I go top and bottom lids and a line out to the side on both. The top lid basically use my eyeliner as eyeshadow, and the bottom lid thickness changes depending on what I feel like that day.

im not a big fan of that combination, but anyways since its not my business maybe if you try to put little bit of eye makeup intead of putting a whole bunch and then put your red lipstick that way it doesnt look way to overdone.

I love to put on both black eyeliner and red lipstick; I think that it's a great combination.
I don't wear red lip stick every day but I wear it on parties and stuff.
It makes a kind of ''pin up'' look and I find it really beautiful.
Oh and by the way; I also have small lips.

Do you use blusher as well? Maybe if I don't use blusher it'll work?

I think this look works well on paler girls but I can't pull it off.

Zoe of Junior Apprentice wore red lipstick and it looked good on her. I think it was more because of her over confident attitude.

It can be done but I think you need to wear only a little eyeliner and let the lipstick be the focus.
If you want you could try it and then post a picture up here because I think it is one of those things that you can either pull off or end up looking like a clown.

Are you putting liner on the bottom lid? That might be your problem.

Don't apply it thick on bottom that could be your problem too. Just put enough on that you can barely see it and let it be natural.

I think that's the problem though. You either go for statement eyes or statement lips. If you want to pull off red lips you probably need to tone the eyes down.

You cant have really heavy eye make up, and really intense lip colour. You have to pick one to wear at a time, or you will end up looking like a clown. Pick one feature to wear heavy makeup on at a time.

If you don't wear blusher, but are wearing foundation you have to be careful that you don't look too pale. Also, you have to pick carefully what you wear with it. LBD's and white party dresses it would look good with at a party or a fancy evening out. You really have to be careful what you wear with it if your day dressing. Parisian chic and nautical styles work well. Good Luck X

I searched for 3 months before I found a red lipstick I loved and could pull off with my skin tone, that might be where your going wrong.

Today I wore red lipstick with neutral pink eyeshadow, volumizing mascara and very light bottom eyeliner. It all depends on your eye shape to pull the eye off light enough to go bold red and your skin tone to determine the color of the red.
